The restauranter behind Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants Gunpowder, will open a Bollywood disco restaurant in Notting Hill come March.

After launching Gunpowder, a homespun Indian kitchen inspired by childhood family recipes, in 2015,Harneet Baweja, now turns to India's disco era and memories of his dad for inspiration for his upcoming venture.

Bawaja said:'When disco became big in India, my dad would put on his silk floral shirt and bell-bottoms and hit the town - often eating, drinking and dancing all under one roof.'

Wanting to create a venue that 'brings together the golden age of Indian music, art and food together', with Empire Empire, Bawaja invites punters to dine, drink and dance once it opens its doors in All Saints Road in Notting Hill.

Fitted with a custom-made jukebox, "Bollywood bangers" will soundtrack evenings, while the walls will be covered with works by two of the 20th century’s most respected Indian artists - Jogen Chowdhury and Rabin Mondal - as well as with vintage LP covers from India's seventies scene, such as the soundtrack to Disco Dancer, which features Bollywood disco pioneer Bappi Lahiri.

With 40 covers, the restaurant is snug and styled out to be reminiscent of India's old-school curry houses.

Behind the bar, you'll find natural wines, craft beers and ciders, as well as a wine list created by Mattia Bianchi of Berber & Q and Carmel.

In the kitchen, dishes will feature northwestern style cooking found in the old Punjab Empire, so think slow charred kebabs, Malai curry and a Lobster Dum Biryani (complete with the crustaceans head) as the restaurant's signature dish.
