London’s Best Wreath Making Classes & Workshops

What better way to while away a dark winter’s evening under lockdown than making your own Christmas wreath? From online workshops and at-home kits to in-person masterclasses (all being well), The Resident picks out some of the best wreath-making classes from London florists

1 McQueens Flowers x Perrier-Jouët Christmas Wreath Making Workshops, Mayfair 
A Christmas wreath is an easy way to bring a little festive magic into your home. And making your own affords you extra Insta-boasting rights! With this in mind, McQueens Flower School has teamed up with Perrier-Jouët’s Champagne Ambassador, Jonathan ‘JonnyFizz’ Simms, for a series of exclusive Christmas wreath-making workshops. Taking place at McQueen’s Mayfair studio, the evenings will start with a 30-minute champagne tasting session, followed by a workshop in how to craft a show-stopping wreath with the McQueens Flower School team. The workshops take place on just three dates – Thursdays 3, 10 & 17 December, from 6pm-9pm. Tickets are £130.

2 Lavender Green Flowers, online
Lavender Green Flowers, based in Chelsea and Windsor, famously created the floral arrangements for Pippa Middleton’s and Sophie Wessex’s weddings. Now you can create a wreath fit for royalty with their virtual Christmas wreath masterclasses, which promise to be fun, informative and festive. Run over Zoom by their talented Store Manager and Leading Florist, India Burrill, you’ll learn how to create a show-stopping door wreath worthy of the most extravagant front doors. Prior to the class, you will be sent a beautifully presented wreath kit so you have everything you need, although you’ll need to have your own scissors to hand, preferably a strong pair! Choose from three styles of wreaths: Botanical Wreath (classes on 30 November & 10 December, priced £95), Winter Wonderland Wreath (28 November & 12 December, £75), and a Traditional Festive Wreath (28 November & 12 December, £75).

3 Petersham Nurseries Wreath-Making Workshops, Richmond & Covent Garden
Petersham Nurseries in Richmond and Covent Garden are offering wreath-making workshops at the end of November and early December. Learn how to create your own wild and impressive festive wreaths with a series of masterclasses hosted at Petersham Nurseries at both south west and central London. Guided by the experts, you’ll learn how to create a beautiful wreath with the finest seasonal foliage. Plus, in keeping with Petersham Nurseries’ commitment to low waste, the workshops will use both sustainable and biodegradable materials. The three-hour workshops take place on 7, 8 and 14 December in Richmond and 7 & 8 December in Covent Garden, priced £150.

4 Wardian London x Botanical Boys At Home Wreath Making Workshop
Wardian London is teaming up with Botanical Boys to host an At Home Wreath Making Workshop to make the most of a Christmas spent predominantly indoors. Wardian is a biophilia-designed development, moments from Canary Wharf. Inspired by the Wardian case, a kind of small greenhouse created by Dr Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward in the 19th Century, each of Wardian’s 768 apartments feature its own private garden. The wreath-making classes aim to spread a little leafy love this Christmas with the chance to make your own festive decoration for your door. Taking place on Tuesdays 1 & 15 December at 6.30pm, both workshops are for up to 30 guests via Zoom, priced £87pp including a kit full of seasonal mosses, delicate English-grown dried fruit, 30m wired wreath base, a reel of wire, pine cuttings and stud wire. Kits need to be bought at least five days in advance and postage is included.

5 Blooming Haus Wreath Making & Flow Meditation at The Treehouse Hotel
Blooming Haus and luxury brand 7 Over 7 have collaborated to co-create a seasonal wreath with a scented candle pairing and Flow Meditation Masterclass. Choose from two options: A Zoom event for people who prefer to remain in their own space, or three events rounded off with brunch at The Tree House Hotel in Langham Place. The Zoom event takes place on 29 November at 3.30pm with a live wreath-making masterclass (DIY wreath-making kit, nibbles and 80g scented candle included) and guided meditation on flow states (£157pp, click here to book). The live workshops will take place on 4, 12 & 19 December from 10am-2pm at The Treehouse Hotel in small groups up to 15, featuring a wreath-making masterclass and a unique guided meditation featuring 7 Over 7 scented candles (£150pp, click here to book).

6 Alice McCabe Flowers, online
Create a contemporary wreath from the comfort of your own home with Camberwell-based Alice McCabe Flowers. You can make either an everlasting citrus lotus ring wreath (£35) or a living multi-colour airplant hanger (£45). Floral materials will be posted to participants, with the code to attend an online tutorial which showcases techniques required to complete designs. Both wreaths are designed to last longer than Christmas – one is an everlasting dried wreath, the other a living wreath composed of coloured mosses and airplants. The workshops take place via a live YouTube session on Saturday from 28 November till 19 December. 7 Karen Woolven’s Wreath-Making Kits
Greenwich-based florist Karen Woolven is offering wreath-making kits so that you can craete your own wreath, in your own time, from the comfort of your own home. The Christmas Door Wreath kit, available for delivery from 19 November, contains a 30cm wire ring, roll of reel wire, string for hanging, moss, blue pine branches, selection of dried natural decorations, and step-by-step instructions. And of course, you can add in your own embellishments as you see fit. Why not get your friends together over Zoom and have a wreath-off? £32.50.

8 Belmond’s Festive Invitations: Decorations to Delight
Luxury travel company Belmond has launched a series of Festive Invitations, a calendar of virtual workshops and events celebrating timeless Christmas traditions. First up is Decorations to Delight, a winter wreath workshop taking place on 20 November at 5pm. Celebrating a magical winter tradition, celebrity florist and Good Living Experience Maker, Simon Lycett, will share the steps to create a fragrant winter wreath. You’ll need a 16″ wire wreath frame, reel wire or garden twine, florists stub wires, scissors, damp sphagnum moss, straw or wood wool and assorted green foliage that can be gathered and foraged, such as scented pines and berries (find the full list of required and optional materials online). The mindful process of creating art using nature’s ingredients is a reminder of the life enhancing joy of connecting with nature, something the world needs now more than ever. The class will take place live on Instagram at @belmond but you can find it on IGTV after the event.

9 Miracle on Kingdom Street at Pergola Paddington
Miracle on Kingdom Street, a rooftop winter wonderland at Pergola Paddington, is planning a line-up of special winter events – including wreath-making classes, Christmas gospel choir singalongs and winter brunches.
