Riverside Studios in Hammersmith Reopens Fully with Blockbuster Movie & New Theatre Programme
Riverside Studios in Hammersmith is now fully open to the public following the easing of lockdown restrictions with a new programme that includes Nolan’s new Tenet film screenings
Riverside Studios has brought the world to west London for more than 40 years, with a programme of theatre, dance, television, comedy and music that has seen the likes of Samuel Beckett, Helen Mirren, Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse and Margaret Atwood.
The arts and culture space, which relaunched late last year following a huge five-year redevelopment – before COVID-19 halted its renaissance in its tracks – has reopened once again with a brand new film and theatre programme including a blockbuster movie premiere.
Theatre & Cinema
From 26 August, Riverside Studios will screen Christopher Nolan’s hotly anticipated sci-fi epic, Tenet. The film – one of the first major new releases since lockdown – is breaking new ground opening in territories outside the US.
The highly anticipated film, originally due to launch in July, is the follow-up to Nolan’s 2017 war epic Dunkirk and has been called ‘his best movie since Inception’ following secretive press previews.
Tenet, which stars Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, John David Washington and Kenneth Branagh in an action-packed time-travel movie, will screen from 26 August until 10 September at Riverside Studios.

The theatre spaces will also reopen their doors for the first time since Love, Loss & Chianti starring Robert Bathurst was rudely halted in its tracks due to the pandemic.
Riverside Reads – a season of world première play readings by leading actors – will now take over the stage every first Tuesday of the month at 2pm from 1 September.
Curated and directed by Hugh Wooldridge, the monthly events will present brand-new work, which can be experienced live for a socially distanced audience and streamed online.
The season opens with The Last Broadcast by Carey Crim, featuring a cast of Sarah Alexander, Eleanor Crowe, Sandra Dickinson and Patrick Robinson, with Madeleine Gray giving stage directions.
Scattered by Megan van Dusen will be performed in October, and in November it will be The In-Between, a fantasy musical by Laura Tisdall. The season will run through till February 2021, with the full schedule announced shortly.
Each play is rehearsed in one day, uncovering new scripts and new writers for a new audience. Following each reading there will be an opportunity for the audience to discuss the play with the playwright, actors and director. A limited number of tickets will be available from £15.
Food & Drink
Riverside Studios Bar and Kitchen also relaunches, with a new all-day menu offering a great variety of tempting dishes to enjoy from its vantage point overlooking Hammersmith Bridge.
Created as a hub for people to get together – whether that be for a coffee or a glass of wine . With a seasonal food and drinks menu, the options will remain appealing for regulars and locals as well as first time visitors.
The new healthy, accessible menu caters to all dietary requirements, offering everything from morning coffees and evening drinks to brunch from 10am, an all-day breakfast, sharing dishes from 5pm, bites, larger plates and plenty of and vegetarian and vegan choices.
There’s also The Bakery at Riverside Studios, for coffee, sandwiches, smoothies and freshly baked cakes, as well as Sam’s Riverside, which reopened on 4 July with a new outdoor seafood terrace.
‘As we re-emerge post the Covid-19 lockdown we have a responsibility to give voice new talent, and we’re delighted this season opens with three world premières by Carey Crim, Megan van Dusen and Laura Tisdall,’ says Rachel Tackley, Creative Director of Riverside Studios.
‘This, coupled with the first major cinematic release since March of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and a new fresh menu at the Bar & Kitchen, marks the start of a return to fuller programming across all our spaces.’
