Sue Medway has been appointed as the new Director and Curator of the Chelsea Physic Garden, the charity has announced

Sue, the former Operations and Commercial Director of the Design Museum has been in post for a month following the retirement of out-going curator Christopher Bailes.

She has formerly worked at some of the National Trust’s best known properties where she trained in conservation of historic contents working in properties such as Uppark and Chartwell.

Sue says, ‘One has few opportunities in life to be able to combine an interest with one’s work. I have been in the fortunate position of being able to satisfy my personal interest in historic gardens and plants with a role that I find deeply rewarding.

‘I feel privileged and excited to be joining Chelsea Physic Garden now, its rich history, the loyalty of its visitors, the staff and the volunteers mean that it has a well deserved place in everyone’s affection.

The challenge for the next few years is to ensure that the welcome we provide and the facilities here match its reputation as one of the leading botanic gardens in the world.’
