Influencer Ron Timehin on How to Stand Out from the Social Media Crowd
Bromley photographer and Instagram influencer Ron Timehin, featured on the 30 South of 30 list, shares his photography tips and tells us how he came to work with the likes of Adidas and Sony
Celebrated photographer Ron Timehin has nearly 60,000 followers on Instagram and a portfolio boasting brands like Adidas, Adobe, Sony and Peroni, yet he came across his talent quite by accident.
‘I was a musician when I was younger and I played the trumpet. By the time I was 16 I had done my Grade Eight, so I travelled with different bands and orchestras and as I was travelling, that is when photography kind of took my eye,’ explains Timehin.
‘I really wanted to document what I was seeing, so that’s where my passion came from. Initially it was just on my phone, and that’s when Instagram took off.
‘I was featured by Instagram when I was 19 as one of their suggested users, which meant that any new person who joined would see my profile. That helped me jump up about 20,000 followers.’
Now an internationally renowned photographer, Timehin has been named as one of south London’s leading entrepreneurs as part of new landmark development, TWO FIFTY ONE.
The ambassador scheme champions hotly tipped London entrepreneurs, creatives and influencers all under the age of 30, and offers an exclusive platform to support their burgeoning careers.

Alongside offering the list of 30 entrepreneur’s workspace, the ambassadors will be invited to host curated events and workshops throughout the summer at TWO FIFTY ONE, using the development as a platform and creative space where they can engage with the local community, running photography workshops and the like. So how does he make sure he stands out from the crowd?
‘It’s a tricky one,’ he admits, ‘especially with social media and technology as everyone can just take photos now. But what kind of makes me different is that I will go to places in London at times when no-one else is around.
‘So I’ll go to places like Tower Bridge at 4am and I’ll catch it all foggy. It kind of became my style – very atmospheric, an empty and a moody looking London. I just like to give myself a unique perspective of the city.’
Timehin tells me that there are many reasons he loves photography, including being able to ‘document a moment in time’.
‘After capturing it, that moment in an image will last forever. I love the networking, meeting people and the travelling as well.’
Having built his network strongly for the last few years, Timehin has found himself travelling a lot to some incredible places and collaborating with some amazing brands.
‘I travel with brands internationally now,’ he says. ‘The first big collaboration I did was about two years ago and that was Adidas.
‘They contacted me out of the blue and said that they had seen my stuff and the style that I did and wanted to work with me, which was really exciting and scary at the same time.

‘Since then, I’ve worked with lots of different brands in all sorts of niches and I’ve done workshops with brands, worked with Google on a social media campaign and Adobe featured me in some of their adverts for the new Lightroom,’ he reels off.
His incredible street and cityscape style has seen him recognised by global brands and landed him work with Nike, Mercedes-Benz, Absolut Vodka and Red Bull – among many others.
Having grown up in south east London, I’m keen to know if it inspired Timehin on his creative journey. He moved around south London for all of his childhood and has been in Bromley for the last seven years.
‘It’s where I went to secondary school, where my family are and I still live there now,’ he says. ‘It’s been a big part of my life, mainly because of the people that I was brought up around.
‘South London in general inspires me for a number of reasons, one being the fact that it is so big and there are so many different types of people. I’m inspired by all of those individuals and everyone is so different. It’s made me a rounded person.’
