BIKEMINDED LAUNCHES NEW FILM CLUB
The cycling group Bikeminded, run by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, has added film to its 2014 winter programme to encourage local residents to get on their bikes
Members can watch a season of films encompassing action thrillers, documentaries and comedies, each with the humble bike as its main star.
This year’s selection includes The Flying Scotsman, which tells the story of Scottish amateur cyclist Graeme Obree, who broke the world one-hour distance record on his home-made bike, plus Premium Rush, Mont Ventoux Scala Padadisi and the 90 minute documentary Bicycle, a light-hearted and humorous look at our love affair with cycling.
Running from October until April 2015, the free sessions are held in the art-decó venue at the Kensington Central Library on the first Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm, except for November (which is on a Monday) and in January.
The film club is just one of several activities available to Bikeminded members who regularly participate in themed rides and meet-ups in the Royal Borough. Previous cycle rides have included a cake & coffee tour, a blue plaques ride and a cycle through the streets of Kensington and Chelsea on Halloween in a bid to discover its haunted places.
