Seventy five years have passed since India gained independence, and to mark the anniversary the Science Museum is hosting India Lates, an evening celebrating the science, tech, art and innovation from the south Asian powerhouse and its diaspora.

Taking place Wednesday, August 31, India Lates is an after hours, no kids allowed evening, featuring musicians, DJs and performances alongside Q&As with experts from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, authors, and a stack of workshops, covering the breadth of literary and scientific innovation.

This includes Amish Tripathi, author of the Shiva Trilogy, who will be joined by Lucy Hounsom, author of bestselling fantasy Sistersong, to discuss how legends from India and the UK are being re-told through a modern lens and explore their impact on contemporary literature.

You can also meet the team behind Dreamachine - an artwork to see with your eyes closed, if you can wrap your head around that.

The immersive experience is said to create illusions, kaleidoscopic patterns and explosions of colour behind your closed eye, and was created by a troop of scientists, philosophers and the Grammy-winning musician Jon Hopkins.

You can also join in on a mass participation artwork the with artist Chila Kumari Burman, whose neon installation was set up on Millbank as Tate Britain's 2021 Winter Commission.

There's also talks on cancer academia, as well as how to de-colonise video games, new British Asian music, tours of the museum and of course, a pub quiz.

Entry is free but ticketed, and events scheduled on the evening are ticketed from free.

India Lates is on Wednesday 31 August 6.30pm-10pm.
