Horniman Museum and Gardens has a new digital guide which you can use on and off site, via an app.

The Forest Hill museum is one of the latest cultural institutions to be part of Bloomberg Connects' collection for free digital guides.

The guide is filled with fun and interesting facts as it walks you through collections, grounds, the aquarium and butterfly house, with photographs, audio, video and text.

So if you've ever wondered about the lifespan of a jelly fish, you can find out here.

Fairly user-friendly, the guide also walks you through key pieces in the museum's collection such as the wrinkle-free taxidermy walrus that dates back more than a hundred years, and the Apostle Clock from Germany which has been chiming every fifteen minutes at the south London museum since 1901.

The guide also takes you through the World Gallery, which has more than 300 things that celebrates creativity, and all wonderous, fantastical objects.

Short videos or their transcripts will also guide you around the museum's grounds, highlighting plants, trees, displays and features throughout the 16.5 acre garden.

These virtual walks will take you through nine different sections of the gardens including the bee, medicine, dye, materials and prehistoric gardens.

You can also explore the sundial trail tree trail, architectural trail and even a hair trail and discover points of interest along the way with interactive pins.

Winner of Art Fund's Museum of the Year 2022, Horniman Museum joins fellow London institutions The Design Museum, Camden art Centre, Hayward Gallery and the Serpentine, which also have guides on Bloomberg Connects.

Further afield explore Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Falmouth Art Gallery in Cornwall and New York's Guggenheim Museum via the app as well.

Bloomberg Connects is available to download for free from Google Play or the App Store or from bloombergconnects.org

Visit the museum at 100 London Road SE23 3PQ.
