Summer might be slipping away but there’s more alfresco fun to be squeezed out of London yet! From the huge Greenwich Comedy Festival to the last in a run of outdoor laughs at Ally Pally, here are five cool spots to catch some open-air comedy in September…
1 Greenwich Comedy Festival at the National Maritime Museum
The critically acclaimed Greenwich Comedy Festival returns for its 12th year, with more of an open-air, socially distanced vibe this year. It’s out with the Big Top and in with alfresco belly laughs as the likes of Bill Baily, Sara Pascoe, Dara O’Briain, Nish Kumar, Rachel Parris, Josh Widdicombe, Lou Sanders, Reginald D Hunter, and Jamali Maddix hit the stage. Tickets to this year’s event will be sold in pairs (priced £25) with audiences seated on chairs in socially distanced plots in the grounds of the Queen’s House and National Maritime Museum. Performances will take place on a huge domed stage with large LED screens for socially distanced silliness come rain, wind or shine. Instead of the usual bars, street-food stalls and intervals, ticket holders can pre-select drink & snack bundles featuring the likes of Meantime craft beer, Edinburgh Gin, Cawston Press, Propercorn and Pipers Crisps. Greenwich Comedy Club was launched in 2009 by sibling team Will Briggs and Cass Randolph, who spent a lot of their childhood at Up The Creek club with their step-father Malcolm Hardee, an SE London legend.
