ABBA Voyage, a truly modern concert, opens in London in May.

Directed by Baillie Walsh (films Being James Bond, Springsteen and I), Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frida kind of return with a live 10-piece band in a purpose build arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from May 27.

Instead of appearing in the flesh, a digital version of these pop legends will perform.

These digital versions were created by an 850-strong team of techies who used motion capturing and performance techniques with the band members; a process which took months.

The team behind the technology are from George Lucas’ visual effects company, Industrial Light & Magic and this is their first foray into music.

The concert’s production team have worked on the likes of David Bowie’s Lazarus and Blackstar and ABBA’s Mamma Mia! Here we go again, as well as with the like of Beyoncé and Jay Z and The Royal Ballet.

Voyage is also a new studio album, 40 years in the making and two of the albums songs, I Still Have Faith In You, and |Don’t Shut Me Down feature in the concert.

Voyage, the album, is due for release in November on Polydor/Universal Music.

ABBA Voyage opens May 27 at the ABBA Arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

Tickets, from £21, are on sale now.
