I thought the night before a flight was just something to get through, until a stay at Hyatt Place Heathrow turned it into a calm, comfortable start to the holiday itself.
I stayed here with my parents the night before we set off for Disneyland Paris, and from the moment we arrived, everything felt easy.
The hotel is just a short drive from Terminal 5, which instantly took the pressure off our early start.
With on-site parking, frequent shuttle buses and transport links into central London, Hyatt Place is designed for travellers, but in a way that still feels considered and comfortable.
We parked in the hotel car park not just overnight, but for the entire duration of our Disney trip.
It turned out to be a smart and cost-effective decision, with prices noticeably better than official Heathrow parking and shuttles running regularly to the terminals.
Our room was a King Bed with a Runway View on the fifth floor, and it ended up being one of the most memorable parts of the stay.
Watching planes take off every few minutes was oddly calming and surprisingly entertaining - the kind of view you don’t realise you’ll love until you’re sat there, transfixed.
Despite the proximity to the runway, the room was fully soundproofed, so once the window was closed, it was peaceful and quiet.
The room itself was modern and well thought out, with neutral tones, soft furnishings and warm wood accents giving it a calm, contemporary feel.
The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable, and the space felt generous, with a floating desk, chaise lounge and a sleek bathroom that made getting ready the next morning feel stress-free rather than rushed.
After settling in, we headed to the bar near reception where we met hotel manager Ruben, who warmly talked us through the hotel and the wide mix of guests who stay there regularly - from pilots and cabin crew to families heading off on holiday.
He then showed us the Blue Sky Suite, located on the sixth floor, which offers sweeping views across Heathrow’s northern runway and out towards London’s skyline.
From the suite, we could see aeroplane stacking in action: a process where aircraft circle at different heights while waiting for clearance to land, effectively queuing in the sky.
It was fascinating to watch and not something you’d normally get to experience from an airport hotel.
Back at the bar, we enjoyed a couple of aviation-themed cocktails before heading to The Gallery restaurant for dinner.
I wasn’t expecting much, assuming it would be simple pre-flight food, but the quality and variety completely exceeded expectations.
The menu leans into bold flavours, with Asian-inspired dishes sitting comfortably alongside classic options.
Our meal was genuinely impressive, with well-cooked mains and generous portions.
My ribeye steak was cooked perfectly, paired with chunky, well-seasoned chips and a rich peppercorn sauce.
The service throughout was friendly and attentive, with staff taking time to explain dishes despite the hotel being busy.
After dessert, we headed back to our room and turned in early ahead of a 4am wake-up call.
The bed was so comfortable that I slept straight through, waking up rested and ready to travel - something that doesn’t always happen before an early flight.
Hyatt Place Heathrow manages to strike a rare balance: practical without feeling clinical, and comfortable without trying too hard.
If you’re flying from Heathrow and want an easy, stress-free start to your trip, this is a hotel well worth considering.
