Come February, the capital starts to rev up again for the year, and here's our pick on the best things to do in London this month. 

1 Flavourscapes, Regent Street

An outdoor street market to outdo all other street markets, Flavourscapes arrives at Glasshouse Street to bring you glitzy and surprising food. There's a cocktail bar pop up serving confusing but intriguing things such as the upside down iced tea that comes boozy and with jelly ice cubes, as well as a dark room where glow in the dark bao buns reveal their brightly florescent colours. Also available, you've got candyfloss burritos, liquid nitrogen ice cream, sweet potato doughnuts and a brightly coloured five cheese fondue fountain to get stuck into, if you dare. Complementary tasters, roaming performers, magicians and a life-size slinky are set to entertain.

2. The Postal Museum's Tunnel Walks, Clerkenwell

Explore the really, really old Mail Rail tunnels which dates back 100 years. On foot, explore tunnels, tracks and platforms which aren't accessible on the Mail Ride ride, and catch up on all the goss from back in the day about how the network was built and maintained. Suitable for people older than 12, and you'll be wearing hi vis and hard hat.

3 Peter Doig at the Courtauld, Strand

Known for his large-scale landscapes that sit somewhere between the reality and the imagined, Scottish born Peter Doig's works are often richly layered with film scenes, other artworks and album covers while still being connected to places he has lived and worked, including the UK, Canada and Trinidad. This major exhibtion showases new paintings, as well as new and recent drawings and prints.

4 Brick Dinos at Horniman Museum and Gardens

It's some of the world's largest beasts, recreated in minature and in LEGO bricks. Artist Warren Elsmore and his team have created model dinosaurs including the raptor-like Masiakasaurus, the crocodile-like Sarcoschus and a life-sized flying pterosaur.

5 Big Penny Beer Fest, Walthamstow

The Blackhorse Beer Mile Brewery, Big Penny Social, is putting on its first ever Big Penny Beer Fest, which does what it says on the tin. Featuring more than 200 independent cask beers, tipples from boutique distilleries, pub grub and live music throughout the festival, you've got yourself a pretty fine way to while away an afternoon or evening.

6 Explore the British Museum

With artifacts dating back 2 million years, there's a lot to see and discover at this supreme museum. If you don't know where to start, the museum has several tours you can take depending on what your interests are which will naviage you through worlds like the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians or Britain's colonial past. If you've got the kids in tow, head to the Families Desk (open weekend and school holidays 10am-12.30pm; 1.15pm-4.30pm) to collect an explorer trail kit and look out for events and activities designed for young minds.

7 Grayson Perry: Posh Cloths, Islington

The beloved London artist exhibits a collection of textile works this month at north London gallery Victoria Miro. The set of tapestries in Grayson Perry: Posh Cloths looks at contemporary British life, politics, consumerism, history and art, that all come with that Grayson charm, wit and humour.

8 Secret Concert at Shoreditch Treehouse

DEBUT, a thing by Airbnb, hosts intimate and rustic music-filled evenings in unconventional places. Held in everyone's Bohemian Shoreditch dream - a loft space that comes with a Steinway grand - guests can BYOB,order suzhi and gyoza from Apothecary East’s pop-up and pull up a cushion to enjoy the various classical music acts - requests taken.

9 Sami Tamimi Palestinian Supper Club Series

Ottolenghi's chef pal delves into his Palestinian heritage with a series of online cooking classes that pluck out traditional and modern Middle Eastern dishes and shows you how to make them. Dishes include chicken shawarma pie, baked kofta and aubergine tabbouleh. Classes are suitable for all levels of cooks.

10 Hidden London Tours, across London

Deep dive into London's historic Underground on one of these award winning tours, put on by London Transport Museum. With access to sites generally off limits to the public, explore places like the bomb-proof wartime corridors at the abandoned Down Street station, Euston's secret 1960s gallery of advertising posters or the WWII underground shelters hidden below Clapham South

11 Watch Six Nations

Catch all the scrums, tackles and drop kicks at one of the various big screens popping up for kick off. The Cadogan Arms and The George are both putting on special menus for all the games. Big Penny Social, the massive beer barn in Walthamstow will also be showing matches, as will Flat Iron Square in London Bridge, Battersea's Northcote Records and BOXPARK in Croydon, Shoreditch and Wembley.

12 On The Piste at Frank's Bar, Maison Francois

The team at Maison Francois join forces with Provisions, fine cheese and wine lovers, to create an Alpine, apres ski inspired feast of fondue and raclette. Alongside these warming pots of cheese, plates of smoke Morteau sausage and charuterie boards and Alpine wines are also on offer.

13 Isobel Waller-Bridge at Southbank Centre

She may have a famous sister, but Isobel Waller-Bridge has got her own thing going on too. The composer and pianist, who composed the soundtrack for her sister's Fleabag, as well as for Black Mirror and Emma, returns to Southbank Centre to perform new work for her debut UK show. Already Isobel has collaborated with Alexander McQueen and Simone Rocha, and her commission for the Philharmonia Orchestra premiered in Festival Hall in 2021.

14 Valentines Day

There's plenty of fun things to do on February 14, whether you're out with your boo, your gals or your pals. Celebrate yourselves at one of these romantic restaurants, or get a bit nerdy about it at the Natural History Museum and take a look at how wild things in the natural world show their love at a Valentines late. NHM also has a silent disco on for the occasion. Michelin-starred Benares Mayfair is putting on a seafood masterclass and lunch session for pairs (Sun Feb 12 £220pp), or watch Moulin Rouge over dinner at the Gaucho Film Club on Charlotte Street (Sat Feb 11, £65pp). The show-stopping Bacchanalia, also in Mayfair, will put a special romantic tasting menu (from £195) along side its a la carte. 

15 Half Term Fun With The Kids

There's so much to do this half term. If you haven't seen ELMER and Friends at the Horniman Museum, go. The National Gallery will host explore, build, play workshops and the London Transport Museum is always a good choice. Also see the Imagine Children's Festival below, and these fun things to do with children, rain or shine

16 Comedy Fridays at Aquavit

The sublime Nordic restaurant is plating up a three-course Scandi meal before inviting guests to head up stairs to the private Stockholm room for a night of laughs. This February sees Paul F Taylor and Pete Selwood work the room.

17 Imagine Children's Festival, Southbank

Eleven fun-filled days with half of the programme free, Imagine Children's Festival has a lot to do. Workshops, shows and events cover theatre, visual arts, dance and music, and there's plenty of opportunity for your child to get hands-on. Highlights include the stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's Tales from Acorn Wood, and a daytime rave.

18 Great British Bake Off The Musical

Most likely as cheesy as a cheese and chive scone, the family favourite reality TV programme is now a musical. Five years in the making, the musical much like the tv show, pulls together the life stories of a talented motley crew who forge strong friendships in a pressure cooker environment.

19 Michael Rosen: Getting Better, Southbank Centre

The much-cherished children's author speaks about personal trauma and grief in this frank in-conversation session with BAFTA-winning writer Abi Morgan. It's based on his BBC Book of the Year book, Getting Better, which is his story of working out how to live well in dark times.

20 Kew Garden's Orchid Festival

The annual flower festival is back, this time celebrating the biodiversity of Cameroon. A perfect tonic to January's grey days, the Orchid festival is full of bright pops of colour, as well as living sculptures inspired by the West African nation's wildlife.
