The River Gardens at Royal Greenwich is a vibrant new quarter stretching 300 metres along the banks of the River Thames, located adjacent to the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage, inscribed by UNESCO in December 1997 for its iconic Grade I listed architecture.

Since Tudor times, architecture has played an important part in the life of Greenwich. King Henry VIII and his two daughters who followed as monarchs, Mary and Elizabeth were born at Greenwich Palace. When this fell into disrepair, Queen Anne commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to build a refuge for naval men who had served their country. Construction of Greenwich Hospital began in 1696, and it still stands today as the Old Royal Naval College, home to the University of Greenwich and Trinity Laban.

The waterfront of the Royal Borough of Greenwich has changed radically over the past twenty years. The former East Greenwich Gas Works on Greenwich Peninsula became home to the Millennium Dome designed by Lord Rogers of Riverside. Today, this is The 02 Arena, situated next to the Jubilee Line’s North Greenwich station, which opened in 1999.

The 02 has been a terrific success and in 2013, it was again crowned the most popular venue in the world. 1999 also saw the opening of the DLR extension under the Thames to Lewisham. Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich is The River Gardens’ local station, situated close to Greenwich Pier and the River Bus service.

Historically, the waterfront of East Greenwich was only visible from the river due to the high walls of the Victorian wharves. Four of these: Lovell’s, Granite, Badcock’s and Pipers comprise the 300 metres of The River Gardens with panoramic views across the river to Canary Wharf and the City of London.

London & Regional Properties is the developer of this prime development and Squire & Partners, an award winning architectural practice was commissioned to design a framework for this 12-acre site. The large waterside apartments, set within four beautifully serene landscaped gardens will include a private gym, tennis/games court, swimming pool, restaurants, retail, and crèche. Extensive underground car parking and ample bike parking is included.

Granite Apartments, the latest phase of The River Gardens comprises 131 1, 2 and 3 bedroom luxury residences, which are the largest in Royal Greenwich. Each apartment has been finished to the highest specification with Italian custom designed kitchens, large en-suite bathrooms with under floor heating, a video entry system and pre-wired satellite TV connection designed to create sophisticated contemporary London living by maximising both space and light throughout.
