Rihanna’s former mansion on St John’s Wood Park has gone on sale for a cool £32 million, which buys you an eight-bedroom white stucco villa with immaculate interiors, plenty of entertaining space, a huge garden and a gym

The former London home of globally renowned singer/songwriter Rihanna has gone on sale. The eight bedroom house on St John’s Wood Park – a gated double-fronted detached property with 6,332 sq ft of immaculate interiors – has a plenty of luxurious touches, including a carriage driveway, passenger lift, gymnasium, two entire floors of entertaining space and a large landscaped rear garden.

Media interviews and the star’s own Instagram stories had led to wide reporting about Rihanna’s mansion in St John’s Wood, and it is believed the Barbados-born beauty has used the property as her London base for the last 2.5 years. Reports and photos have shown her enjoying ice cream in the kitchen, chilling in the garden and even shopping at Sainsbury’s.

Located on St John’s Wood Park – a beautiful tree-lined residential street in St John’s Wood – the sought-after address provides easy access to the shops along the Finchley Road and St John’s Wood High Street, and is within close proximity of St John’s Wood Underground Station (for the Jubilee Line), Primrose Hill and Regent’s Park.

‘This magnificent house on St John’s Wood Park is perfect for a music, business or political mogul,’ says Gary Hersham, Founding Director of Beauchamp Estates.

‘It is one of the most important houses to come onto the market in the local area in recent years. It is an exceptional property with the garden floor and large garden superb for relaxation whilst the reception room on the raised ground floor is wonderful for big parties.’

The white stucco detached villa was originally built circa 1844 by wealthy builder William Holme Twentyman (1802-1884) and designed by renowned architect John Shaw Junior (1803-1870), a favourite of HRH Prince Albert.

After building neighbouring Avenue Road, Twentyman and Shaw turned their attentions to St John’s Wood Park devising large houses on V-shaped plots that afforded each residence a substantial garden by London standards, hence the choice of ‘park’ over ‘road’ in the street name.

The house is the only one of Twentyman/Shaw’s original V-plot villas on St John’s Wood Park that has survived, with all the others either demolished, adapted or the plots compromised.

The five-storey white stucco villa is trademark Shaw with a front façade with pillared entrance portico flanked by multi-storey bays and stone dressings. To the rear, full height windows on the lower floors overlook the large rear garden.

Providing substantial accommodation over the garden floor, raised ground floor and three upper floors, the house has been fully refurbished in recent years and offers multiple reception and family rooms, formal and casual dining rooms, a study/library, a large family kitchen and eight bedrooms, two which can be configured to use as a suite and two configured to allow use as a self-contained flat or staff accommodation.

The garden floor, where you’ll find the informal relaxation and leisure areas, opens onto a 21-foot terrace and 126-foot deep by 130-foot wide rear garden (inner London gardens average 36 foot).

On the raised ground floor, the entrance hall gives access to the main reception room and study, which spans the entire depth of the house and features a 12-seat dining area, two lounge areas, twin fireplaces, generous ceiling heights, floor-to-ceiling windows and two sets of French doors opening onto twin balconies overlooking the garden.

The principal bedroom suite on the first floor has an adjoining sitting room, twin dressing rooms and a main bathroom with steam shower and infrared sauna. There are seven further bedrooms; two en suite, two with a shared en suite and one with a separate shower room.

The home has also been modernised and secured with CCTV, Home Automation, a cinema projection system, comfort cooling and electronic curtains and blinds. There are also two gated ‘in-and-out’ entrances and secure off-street parking for six cars.

The property has also secured planning permission to expand it into a 16,000 sq ft home.
