Having a garden, balcony or roof terrace is second only in importance to prospective purchasers to the overall size of the property, according to a survey by Chestertons

A recent survey by estate agents Chestertons estimates that having a garden or outdoor space can add 8% to the value of a property. Londoners are also the most willing to invest in their garden or outdoor space, with the average amount spent on maintaining and improving gardens and outdoor spaces in the capital at £561, compared to £366 across the rest of the UK.

The cause of this is perhaps the time we spend in our gardens, with recent research showing that 37% of Brits are spending more time in the garden than they did five years ago.
