A GUIDE TO EAST SHEEN
East Sheen residents are truly spoilt, as East Sheen has something for absolutely everyone of all ages. Sitting in the middle of the triangle of Barnes, Richmond and Putney, the area is extremely popular with professionals and families, whilst also having a lovely village feel, and having both the River Thames and Richmond Park on its doorstep.
Firstly, we are very lucky to have such a fine selection of excellent schools, from the Ofsted Outstanding East Sheen and Sheen Mount Primary Schools, through to Thomson House School, Tower House School, the independent Prep school for boys ages 4-13 years, and also Richmond Park Academy Secondary School.
Next, through Sheen Gate, in the heart of Sheen, is the absolutely stunning Richmond Park. It is the largest of London’s eight Royal Parks and is home to The Royal Ballet School in the Grade 1 Listed White Lodge and the lovely Pembroke Lodge (perfect for gorgeous lunches and teas!) with incredible views all over London. The Park is also home to some amazing wildlife, including Fallow and Red deer. Other treasures are Pen Ponds and the fabulous Isabella Plantation, a 40 acre woodland garden, with hundreds of vivid azaleas, rhododendrons and other delights throughout the year. The park is wonderful for walking the dog, cycling, running or just enjoying!
Sheen has very good transport links, having Mortlake train Station with trains to Waterloo taking 25 minutes, and several bus routes too. For shopping, Sheen has everything, from Waitrose and Whistles, to some unique, fun, independent shops, such as Oh Darling, Sandrine specialist chocolate shop and Sheen Living, to a large selection of bike shops for the cycling enthusiasts! Our Pubs are great too, from the quiet, pretty, Plough, the food lovers Victoria, to the lively, popular Hare and Hounds.
For sports lovers, Sheen has a huge selection of activities to choose between. There is Palewell Common, with tennis courts, pitch and putt, bowls and at weekends, it is home to the very popular Sheen Lions Football Club for ages between 6-18 and Kids Works, for a wide range of children’s sports clubs and camps. We also have the Sheen Lawn Tennis and Squash Club and are very close to The Bank of England Sports Club and The Roehampton Club, which have golf and swimming pools too.
Sheen has an eclectic variety of houses to suit all requirements and budgets, from the charming, pretty cottages in ‘The Royals’, to post war semi-detached houses, Edwardian homes in tree lined avenues, to large, detached residences in private roads on ‘Parkside’. The property market is very healthy in East Sheen with prices rising consistently and the postcode has historically been one of the most stable, with regards to property prices, in the whole of London.
