You Don’t Need to Be a Millionaire to Buy This Chelsea Penthouse

This Chelsea penthouse with great views of the Thames is on the market for less than £1 million pounds – a rare find in central London

Located on Embankment Gardens, a desirable riverside street by the Royal Hospital Chelsea and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, this two-bedroom penthouse apartment, situated within a 19th century red-brick mansion house, is on the market for just £825,000. A snip, considering its credentials.

The top-floor property extends over 646 sq ft, with two bedrooms with river views, a reception room, kitchen, bathroom, spacious rear terrace overlooking the gardens of Royal Hospital Chelsea and spectacular views across the Thames to Battersea Park and the Peace Pagoda.

Subject to planning permission and freeholders consent, there is also space to extend the home onto the rear terrace, which could expand the living area or create a new room.

‘Homes of this type are becoming increasingly rare in central London,’ says Teresa Brewer, Partner at Finlay Brewer, the London agent marketing the property.

‘The availability of a top-floor apartment in Chelsea, by the river Thames, is a fantastic opportunity. In need of some updating and with the potential to extend to the rear, this is perfect for someone looking to create their own space and style.’

The collection of buildings that line Embankment Gardens were some of the first buildings constructed along the Chelsea Embankment. Designed by Sir Joseph Balzegette and completed in 1874, the Embankment was one of the great engineering achievements of the Victorian era.

Over one mile long, Chelsea Embankment was built to reduce the River Thames to a uniform width of 700 feet, to tame the water flow and reduce flooding. The newly constructed houses and mansion blocks replaced many of the wharfs, pubs and businesses located along the river front, transforming it from a commercial centre to a residential destination.
