Most of us love the character and charm of a period property, and new-builds are all boxy and impersonal with no storage, right? That’s not the case at Oval Quarter, as one happy customer has just discovered…

When Hannah Fiszpan’s lovely period one-bedroom flat in a conservation area became too small for her, she knew that she may struggle to find a home that she loved as much.

Wishing to stay in the locale, 39 year-old Hannah, an environmental consultant, went to view a variety of different options before finding Oval Quarter, a new development by Higgins Homes, just 10 minutes by tube to central London.

‘I never thought I would ever go for a new build property; it is really not my thing at all (so I thought),’ says Hannah. ‘My old home was as far away from a new build as you can get but I wanted to keep my options open so I viewed a few different properties.’

Hannah soon realised that she would get more for her money by purchasing a new build but was amazed at the space Oval Quarter offered.

‘I was really wowed by the show flat,’ explains Hannah. ‘The square footage offered meant that the apartment was really very spacious in comparison to all other properties I’d viewed in the same price bracket. In addition, the proportions of all the rooms were fabulous. I was impressed that the second bedroom was a substantial size and there was plenty of room in the master bedroom en suite.

‘There is also a generous utility room with a washer-dryer and a separate store cupboard. These are very unusual features in one and two-bedroom dwellings providing you with convenient and concealed space to store all your bits and bobs, particularly hoovers and ironing boards.’

Hannah bought a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment priced at £575,000.

‘The other thing that really sold it to me was that my flat has an unobstructed parkland view that will evolve over time. I look forward to sitting out on my balcony in the summer months watching the world go by in this new urban neighbourhood,’ says Hannah. ‘The flat is also unbelievably quiet with amazing views to the centre of London. I can also get to work in London Bridge so easily by bike, tube or bus. I’m really quite spoilt all round.’

Although Hannah hasn’t bought new before, she has been really impressed with the process: ‘Everyone at Higgins Homes has been highly professional and extremely personable,’ she says. ‘It makes such a difference and has made the buying process extremely easy. Any time I had a question, I could email Higgins and then expect a helpful, informative and courteous reply within 24 hours.’

Hidden between Oval, Kennington, Camberwell and Stockwell, Oval Quarter brings more than 800 homes located within public boulevards. The development is located within an already well established London neighbourhood.

Oval Quarter is part of the plans for the general regeneration of the area and although strikingly modern in design, it has a sympathetic fit with its immediate surroundings that feature elegant Georgian villas and tall Victorian mansion apartments.

What’s more, it addresses the much needed desire for public space and allows for traditional street patterns, the almost forgotten London square and the regeneration of a local park.

‘I’m really fussy but as soon as I viewed the show flat and saw what could be achieved with the space I was sold,’ adds Hannah. ‘I’ve recently moved in and I’ve been painting the walls a lovely shade of grey, sorting out where I want my furniture and having fun personalising my new home. But apart from that, I can just enjoy it.

‘The fixtures and fittings are stylish, high quality, yet understated and although I don’t mind doing the odd bit of DIY, it’s lovely to know that I don’t have to deal with someone else’s avocado coloured bathroom or flock wallpaper!
