The countdown to Christmas is in its last leg, and here are five fun things to do this week to see you through to December 25.

1 Visit a Christmas Market

2 Catch a panto

Who doesn’t want to laugh at Dawn French? The funny lady is preforming in The London Pallidum’s rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk, alongside Julian Cleary. Also look at Mother Goose at Hackney Empire, Cinderella with a Cleopatra twist at Stratford East or Hex at the National Theatre. Here’s our guide to the best pantos and Christmas shows in London

3 Visit Santa’s Grotto

It’s your last chance for a family snap with Santa, or for your children to whisper to him any last-minute requests. Grab a glass of mulled wine, pick up a small gift, try your hand at ice skating or curling, and say hello to the big man, at any one of these great grottos in London.

4 Christmas Eve Celebrations

Always a great excuse for a catch up with friends, Christmas Eve is usually a corker of a night. While your local boozer is hard to beat for the last festive hoorah, these alfresco terraces come with a lot of wintery charm.

5 Dine out for Christmas

Don’t want to stuff a turkey? No, neither do I. If you’re looking for someone else to prepare the festive feast but haven’t been invited to the in-laws or to your pal’s, then gather those who are dear and close by and take them to one of these excellent spots for a real Christmas treat.
