Beanstalk, a charity that works with schools in Wandsworth, Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham to get children reading, is looking for more volunteers. If you have a passion for books and aren’t working, this could be the role for you.
Beanstalk volunteers go into schools to work with children on a one-to-one basis, giving them undivided attention and getting them confident readers. The children they work with may be struggling with reading, lack the support at home to develop their reading skills, or don’t have English as their first language. One in 8 children in primary schools in England struggle severely with reading. Each volunteer works with three children, giving them two 30-minute sessions each week for a year.
Working with the children can be a very fulfilling, and gives you the opportunity to give something back to the community, as well as make new friends and develop your knowledge of the education sector.
