Too Hot for the Tube? Why Not Commute by Boat?

Commuting across crowded London can be trying at the best of times, but add in a heatwave and the daily struggle is oh-so hideously real. But if you’re lucky enough to live or work by the river, there is another way…

MBNA Thames Clippers polled commuters across the UK to find out about their journeys to and from work and how it affects them. One in six of us regularly find our commute is devoid of fresh air and doesn’t even include a seat.

To tackle these issues, credit card brand MBNA is giving away 10 annual season tickets for London’s River Bus service, to encourage you to switch the tube for the Thames for a scenic commute, a climate-controlled cabin (or the wind in your hair) and even a seat! The fleet even has cafés serving hot drinks, breakfast pastries and fruit to ease the logistics of the morning rush.

Plus, with research showing two thirds (62%) of Brits admit to working on their commute, and one in three (30%) working for more than half an hour a day while commuting, Thames Clippers is also offering commuters a way to claim back their commute, teaming up with London photographer and instagrammer @levanterman for a free photography workshop on 26 July 2018.

With 110K followers on Instagram, Nige will share his secrets to create the most stunning images while exploring the city aboard MBNA Thames Clippers, from lighting to framing and even how to make the most of the city’s ‘golden hour’.

The workshop starts at Embankment aboard the RB1 service departing at 1728. You’ll then head straight over to Waterloo Pier, where you can capture one of the world’s most photographed attractions, the London Eye.

Next, it’s eastbound to Tower Pier to catch the late afternoon light over Tower Bridge, before heading past the historic wharves of the Docklands, where old and new come face to face at Canary Wharf.

Finally, it’s onto Greenwich and past the majestic Cutty Sark before disembarking at North Greenwich Pier, home to The O2.
