LONDON’S BEST OUTDOOR EVENTS THIS SUMMER

Not many places in the world can compete when the sun is out in London. Here’s where you can truly make the most of it at the best outdoor events in the capital this summer 

1. Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

We’ve already been this year to see the enchanting Peter Pan, and during August Regent’s Park’s unique open-air theatre will be staging Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. openairtheatre.com

2. Camden Market

It’s an exciting time for what’s traditionally a tourist hub, with a whole host of fabulous summer events planned at Camden Market. Don’t miss the Backyard Cinema in August. camdenmarket.com

3. The Jetty

London’s most exciting new riverside arts venue located on the Greenwich Peninsula, The Jetty, will be transformed into the Heartbreak Hotel, a purpose built interactive theatre experience. thejettygreenwich.co.uk

4. The Nomad Cinema

Brompton Cemetery, Hoxton Hotel, Meantime Brewery, Fulham Palace… Just some of the locations for The Nomad Cinema’s summer of pop-up cinematic adventure. whereisthenomad.com

5. On Blackheath

One for the diary as On Blackheath runs from 12-13 September with a bill featuring Elbow, Madness, Manic Street Preachers and many more. onblackheath.com

6. Angel Canal Festival

The annual event is back on 6 September, always one the whole Islington community comes together for. Stalls, a funfare and theatre – just the ticket. angelcanalfestival.org

7. Serpentine Pavilion

If you’ve yet to visit, there’s still plenty of time (until 18 October) to see the kaleidoscopic summer Pavilion by architects José Selgas and Lucía Cano. Entry is free. serpentinegalleries.org

8. Panorama at Notting Hill Carnival

On Saturday 29 August, there will be an open air evening of steelpan bands and performers held Emslie Horniman Pleasance park,  Bosworth Road, W10. thelondonnottinghillcarnival.com

9.  SW4

On 29 and 30 August, the likes of Fatboy Slim, Faithless and Basement Jaxx will be taking to the stage on Clapham Common at this exceedingly popular dance festival, which continues to draw crowds from all over town. Tickets are still available from £62.50, but only just. southwestfour.com

10. Urban: Block Party

Make the most of the Southbank Centre’s riverside location at this huge outdoor party on 8 August. The event – which is suitable for the whole family and takes place on the riverside terrace – will feature some of the UK’s top DJs, and runs from 2-7pm. southbankcentre.co.uk

11.  Jazz on the Lawn Fulham Palace 

The 606 Club is making the (short) migration from its home on Lots Road to the beautiful surrounds of Fulham Palace, to present two evenings of live jazz on 31 July and 1 August. Friday night sees Tony O’Mally step up to the mic, whilst Saturday will feature Kevin Fitzsimmons. 606club.co.uk

12. Proms on the Roof

On 5 and 12 of August, The Roof Gardens will be showcasing a series of classical music performances 100ft above London of the top roof of the venue. Tickets from £29.50. virginlimitededition.com/en/the-roof-gardens
