Ridley Scott’s new documentary A String of Naked Lightbulbs lifts the lid on the A-list Mayfair club that has played host to celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra and Prince Harry over its 50-year history
The 50-minute film, which is produced by Ridley Scott and Kate Driver, and directed by Greg Fay, focuses on how founder Robin Birley transformed what was once a dilapidated basement into one of the hottest nightclubs in the world, changing London’s cultural landscape in the process.
Told through the personal testimony of its glitzy cast members, A String of Naked Lightbulbs gives a rare insight into what has made Annabel’s such a legendary club from the food and the film stars to the amazing performances from musical legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Tina Turner and Ray Charles.
Ridley Scott had this to say about the film, ‘Annabel’s is synonymous with one of the most fun and iconic periods in London’s history. I think we have shone a light into what was at the heart of London’s nightlife for the past 50 years and look forward to audiences everywhere having the opportunity to enjoy the world of Annabel’s as much as we did.’
Made to coincide with its 50th anniversary, the film recently received a star-studded premiere at the Curzon Cinema in Mayfair attended by Harry Styles, Kate Moss, Grace Jones and Noel Gallagher. Running for six weeks at the Curzon Mayfair , the documentary will also be shown at a series of screenings at Annabel’s throughout this November.
