4  Hampton Court Palace
As impressive as the building itself is, Hampton Court Palace’s gardens are just as entertaining. One of the main draws is the famous maze – a third of an acre of twists, turns and dead ends. Depending on your navigational skills, it could be a day out in itself!

7  Syon House and Park
For a relatively small space, there’s lots to see and do at Syon Park. In addition to 200 acres of meadow-like parkland, there’s the house itself – home to the Duke of Northumberland – that’s open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, formal gardens, and the impressive great conservatory.

8 Chiswick House and Gardens
This stunning neo-Palladian villa houses an enviable array of artwork, as well as some very pretty interiors, and the gardens in which it sits more than live up to it – they underwent a £12 million restoration in June and the results speak for themselves.

9  Pools on the Park

Situated on the edge of Old Deer Park, Pools on the Park is a huge hit with kids, who can spend hours splashing about in the big outdoor pool. Handily, there are two pools inside too, should the weather fail…
