Camberwell Arts, which celebrates 20 years of promoting the arts in Camberwell, hosts its first co-ordinated Open Studios event for Christmas 2014. The event takes place over two weekends, from Friday 28-30 November in East Camberwell, and Friday 12-14 December for West Camberwell.
From canvases to prints, silver to ceramics, you will find something for all tastes and budgets in SE5, just in time for Christmas. You can also pop into Daily Goods at on Camberwell Church Street from 25 November until 7 December to see work curated by Orso Major Gallery.
Find various artists at Vanguard Court, Empress Mews, Coldharbour Studios, Clockwork Studios, The Remakery, as well as open houses at Vestry Mews and Grace Mews, and a host of individual artists’ homes.
Mini Moderns, an interiors brand specialising in applied pattern across a range of products including wallpapers, fabrics, cushions, rugs and ceramics (their initial collection was snapped up by Heal’s and they have collaborated with Southbank Centre on a number of projects),opens the weekend of 13-14 from 11am-6pm at Empress Mews. There will be a special private view evening on Friday 12th from 6pm-9pm with bargains, new products and a rummage box of sample fabrics.
Catch Flux Jewellery School at Vanguard Court (28-30 November, private view 27 November, 6-9pm), where you can find a 14-strong collective of contemporary jewellers including the likes of Vicky Forrester and Becky Dockree. You can even commission your favourite Flux Studios member to create so etching totally unique for you. Fancy getting involved in the creative process of making jewellery? Look out for Camberwell College of Arts-graduate Sarah Hamilton at the townhouse of fellow artist Gabriela Szulman in Vestry Mews, on 28-30 November. Sarah’s prints, mirrors, cards and woodblocks reflect her passion for colour, drawing and textured materials. Joyful, fresh and contemporary, with a Mid-Century Scandinavian feel, her images emerge from sketchbooks and are hand or digitally printed. Gabriela’s prints, greeting cards, jewellery and scarves are inspired by memory, nostalgia and a love of everything vintage. Swing by for fashion, accessories, cushions, homewares, quirky cards, original collages and recycled textiles.
Also, on Saturday 6 December, Camberwell Arts hosts the Made in Camberwell Arts Market at Datchelor Place, off Camberwell Church Street, from 10am-5pm. This arts market is bursting with crafters, artists and makers from Camberwell and beyond. Set in a cosy cul de sac surrounded by cafes and eateries, we’ll keep you toasty and well fed.
