One of London’s largest rooftop gardens has had a hi-tech winter makeover, and its carnival time…
John Lewis & Partners on Oxford Street has launched a fairground experience in the sky as its flagship rooftop transforms into The Winter Carnival.
Opening from midday on Friday 18 October, the rooftop garden – one of the largest in London – is now a world of illumination with winter games, cosy private dens, Americana street food, seasonal cocktails and some nifty customisable lighting, music and games from Philips Hue x Google.
Battle it out with friends and family ‘the Google way’ on the curling lane, which features a mounted Google Pixel designed to take night sight imagery so you can capture your games on those dark wintry evenings.
There’s also a free Google Claw Machine, a throwback to classic fairground fun, where you can reach for prizes, with the likes of Google Nest products up for grabs and a Google Pixel phone to be won each week.
The bookable private dens – perfect for get-togethers over winter food and drink – have been transformed into the magical House of Mirrors, House of Lights and House of Fortune, powered by Google Nest and Philips Hue. With 16 million colour variations to choose from, Philips Hue lets you set the scene to match your mood through voice-activated Google Nest products.

There are also Philips Hue Lily up-lighters placed discreetly around the garden, washing everything with a winter glow to make sure your Instagram game is on point. So hop onto one of the static fairground horses or bumper cars to create those enviable Insta-moments.
Jimmy Garcia, king of the pop ups, will be bringing The Carnival Diner to the rooftop for Americana-style feasting on Popcorn Shrimp, Loaded Fries, Corn Dogs, Turkey Drummers, Oreo Cheesecake Bites, Hot Toffee Apples and more. The diner, set inside the rooftop restaurant and bedecked with gold mirrors and lighting, is available for both bookings and walk-ins.
There’s also a coffee cocktail pop up by Sage Appliances, serving the likes of Tipsy Hot Chocolate, Winter’s Chill and Butterscotch Kiss, as well as Coffee Masterclasses taking place every Tuesday in the House of Lights (6pm-7pm from 12 November-17 December for groups of six).
Plus, rooftop residents Background Bars will be back with a variety of seasonal cocktails, wines and beers to enjoy on the gold bedecked pergola.
Look out for additional seasonal touches for Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas, too.
The Winter Carnival on the John Lewis rooftop garden is open from Friday 18 October until Sunday 5 January (Mon-Sat, 12pm-10pm & Sun 12pm-9pm)
