Talk about the icing on the cake… Learn a new skill and eat great food by joining a Biscuiteers School of Icing Notting Hill class
It’s only been open in Notting Hill for a couple of years, but the Biscuiteers Boutique & Icing Café is a firm favourite for locals – and people much further afield. Created by husband and wife team, Harriet Hastings and Stevie Congdon, a simple idea to indulge in a passion about making biscuits has evolved into a real community hub for all the family to get involved in the fun.
As well as featuring Biscuiteers’ biscuit, chocolate and cake collections, the boutique also plays host to their drop-in icing café where they host themed icing sessions, children’s icing parties and is the home of Biscuiteers School of Icing – and given half-term is on the horizon, this seemed the perfect time to indulge in what they specialise in.
So if you fancy learning a new skill in a stunning setting, then the School of Icing classes – which take place on Wednesdays and Sundays – will be just the ticket. Go and work closely with their team of expert icers in small and intimate classes of no more than ten people. You’ll leave with a beautiful tin of biscuits you’ve iced yourself and plenty of Biscuiteers tricks and techniques. Tea and coffee is provided, along with a 100% cotton apron for you to take home. Classes are seasonally themed and upcoming classes include: Butterfly, Fashion and Flower Power.
As Harriet explains on their website, these icing sessions could lead to anything: ‘One of the real joys of iced biscuits is their incredible flexibility. Our experienced icers do some wonderful work copying logos, fashion designs and all sorts of products. We have had some exciting commissions, including a collaboration with Anya Hindmarch to create a tin of her handbags and a circus tin exclusively for the Conran Shop. We designed a limited edition tin to celebrate Selfridges’ 100th birthday and bespoke biscuits for the launch of Harvey Nichols 4th floor. We have created bespoke designs for outstanding brands such as Mulberry, Boden, Swatch and Burberry among many others.’ Who knows what you will create?
Classes run every Wednesday 10.30am-12.30pm and Sundays 11.30am-1.30pm. Price is £78 per person (over 16s only) and to book your space call 0870 458 8358 or pop into 194 Kensington Park Road W11 2ES – also look out for their special events for younger children, held throughout the year
