Absolute Radio’s Dave Berry welcomed the film’s stars – Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello and Allen Leech – to the stage alongside the iconic rock duo to hit the switch and launch the brand new neon light installation.

Confetti cannons and roof top pyrotechnics dazzled spectators as the illuminations lit up over Carnaby Street, one of the world’s most famous shopping destinations.

Bohemian Rhapsody is hailed as one of the greatest rock songs of all time, and Freddie Mercury’s iconic lyrics – including that opening line, ‘Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?’ along with the playful ‘Galileo’ and ‘Figaro’ – now shine bright over Carnaby Street.

The new Bohemian Rhapsody film is the untold true story of Queen and Freddie Mercury – a man who believed in himself and his music when no one else did, defying all stereotypes and breaking all the rules to become one of the greatest musical icons of all time.

The foot-stomping celebration of Queen’s music stars Rami Malek as iconic frontman Freddie Mercury, alongside Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee as Brian May and Joe Mazzello as John Deacon.

A free-entry pop-up shop and exhibition, located at 3 Carnaby Street, also opened on 18 October, offering an immersive Queen experience with a visit from the official Madame Tussauds’ Freddie Mercury London figure, a showcase of photographs, prints, footage and show-stopping costumes, as well as official film merchandise.

‘We are delighted to collaborate with such an iconic band and one of the world’s most famous rock songs, Bohemian Rhapsody,’ said Simon Quayle, Director at Shaftesbury, landlord and owners of Carnaby, which has collaborated with Twentieth Century Fox on the installation.

‘Visitors to Carnaby will love this spectacular light installation and can immerse themselves in the ultimate Queen experience.’

The light installation will remain in place until early January 2019. Throughout that time, Carnaby’s shops bars and restaurants will host a range of Queen-inspired products, menus and special offers. For the latest updates see carnaby.co.uk
