1 Melissa Hemsley’s The Cause Cooking Masterclasses at Mercato Metropolitano

Fund: Australian Red Cross, St Vincent de Paul Society & The Salvation Army’s Bushfire Appeal
Melissa Hemsley is hosting cooking masterclasses at Mercato Metropolitano this Saturday, with all proceeds going to the Australian Red Cross, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW and The Salvation Army’s Bushfire Appeal. During the session, Hemsley will be showcasing recipes from her latest book, Eat Green, including Spiced Carrot and Lentil Stew with Whipped Feta and Fried Garlic Lemon Broccoli as well as Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies. Melissa’s classes are just part of a weekend of activities organised by The Cause founder Elise Gibbons and London’s first sustainable community food market, Mercato Metropolitano. The weekend’s line-up includes a pop-up Australian-inspired food stall, Australian themed cocktails by the Jim & Tonic distillery, plus an exclusive on-site prize draw featuring some outstanding prizes at The Grocery within Mercato Metropolitano. Classes take place at 1pm, 3pm & 5pm. Tickets £40 (click here to book).

2 Omeara’s Charity ‘Fundraver’, Southwark

Headed up by Ibiza Rocks Resident DJ Patrick Nazemi, Omeara’s Charity ‘Fundraver’ has DJs such as James Hype, Artful Dodger, FooR, Jaguar Skills, James Haskell, Patrick Nazemi and a BBC Radio 1 headliner on the line-up. The mammoth line-up will be all be volunteering their precious time in order to raise the hefty donation. 3 Australia Day Charity Brunch & Auction at Pacific
26 January

Mayfair’s contemporary Japanese restaurant, Pacific, is hosting a special Australia Day fundraising brunch and charity auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to the NSW Rural Fire Services. Doing their bit for the #AustraliaisBurning campaign, Pacific’s Australian BBQ-inspired brunch has a £50 entrance fee that’s donated straight to the NSW Rural Fire Services and includes unlimited Aussie-inspired food and one drink. There will also be a host of brilliant prizes up for auction, including a week’s stay at a luxury beach house in Palm Beach, Sydney, a sushi masterclass with Executive Chef Shaun Presland and a bespoke dinner for six cooked at the winner’s home. 11am-4pm.

4 Australian Bushfire Relief Fundraiser at Wander, Stoke Newington
22-26 January
Fund: Adelaide Hills Wine Region Fire Appeal
Wander, a small, neighbourhood restaurant in Stoke Newington run by Australian chef-owner, Alexis Noble, is raising money for relief support back in Australia with donations, a charity raffle, and special week long Australia Day menu. The devastation has hit close to home for growers, producers and wineries in the region, some of them losing vineyards, buildings, equipment, machinery and bottled wine. Wander has created a Crowdfunder page for the Adelaide Hills Wine Region Fire Appeal, as well as creating a £35 Australia Day menu (available 22-26 January) featuring Aussie classics such as Chicken Parmy, Meat Pie, Salt and Pepper Squid, and Pavlova (add a flight for an additional £30, with 100% of wine flight proceeds going to Wander’s Crowdfunder).

5 Ranald Schulz’s The Cause Cooking Masterclass at Mercato Metropolitano
26 January

Mercato Metropolitano’s in-house Australian gardener, chef and compost champion Ranald Schulz will be demonstrating how to make an Aussie Meat Pie, a signature dish for Australians during ‘smoko’ best eaten after catching a wave or wrestling a crocodile. The class will demonstrate how to cook the pie and how to correctly apply condiments. Schulz is the founder of Circuloop, a business that creates urban green spaces using circular economy principles. Circuloop has managed and grown the green spaces at Mercato Metropolitano with a primary objective of growing organic produce for the kitchen and increasing biodiversity. 2pm. 6 Australia Day on Ice at Skylight at Tobacco Dock, Wapping
26 January

Skylight at Tobacco Dock has dropped its Australia Day event ticket fee and opted to support the fire fighting and rescue efforts against the devastating fires in Australia instead. Working with the Aussies in London Facebook group, then event is now a fundraiser with a raffle offering exciting prizes like Paintballing, tickets to Magic Mike and a Dishoom voucher, all day ice skating for £12 per person (with 100% of funds being donated), and three bars each donating £1 per drink throughout the day. Sydney-born Coco Carr will be DJing from 3pm-6pm, and Euphonica DJs will be closing the evening. 12pm-7pm. 7 Fundraising Dinner at Pidgin, Hackney

Pidgin in Hackney is hosting a fundraising dinner on Monday 27 January to raise funds for the Australia bushfire relief effort. Sous Chef Hamish Pearce from Christchurch in New Zealand, who started his career at Urbane Restaurant in Brisbane, has come up with an epic menu inspired by his last trip down under. The menu is priced at £55 per person, and all proceeds will go to Australian Red Cross. The 6.30pm sitting is fully booked but there are still spaces at 9pm. To book email james@birdmangroup.com.

8 February

Chef Kirk Haworth is hosting a special plant-based dinner with Clerkenwell Boy on Saturday 8 February. The five course dinner, priced £50pp, promises a night of extraordinary plant-based food with an Australian twist, as well as a raffle. All proceeds raised across the night will be donated to help Australian producers, winemakers and farmers who’ve been affected. Haworth holds Australia close to his heart after spending five years of his career working in Sydney at Quay and Marque restaurants.

9 Rave for Relief with The Cause, Tottenham
8, 14 & 22 February

The Cause, a 100% DIY underground space in Tottenham dedicated to dance culture, is hosting three fundraising events to show support to those affected by the devastating bushfires in Australia. On 8 February, The Cause, promoter Bizarro and London party starters Percolate are joining forces to present First Nation Fire Relief. The party will run from 1pm-8am across six rooms at The Cause and Grow Tottenham. On 14 February, The Cause hosts Rave for Relief in collaboration with friends of dancefloor fundraisers Dance for Refuge, InnerSoul Music and DIY fundraising platform Voices. Rallying a host of high-calibre secret guests from across the Drum and Bass and UKG spectrum, the three-room affair will run from 11pm-5am. Finally, Fomo For Wildlife Victoria on 22 February will feature the cream of the UK house and Garage crop.

Bread Ahead Gift Vouchers
Fund: NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Services

Renowned London bakery Bread Ahead is donating 50% of all gift vouchers purchased between midnight on 25 January and midnight on 26 January to a designated bushfire fund. Bread Ahead is also launching an Introduction to Australian Baking workshop, running once a month from March to November 2020. £10 from every workshop booking will be donated to the bushfire fund throughout the year.

Kiss the Hippo Coffee
Fund: NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Services
Independent coffee roastery Kiss the Hippo is donating 20% of the proceeds from every bag of Honduran Las Flores purchased. Las Flores is a mix of red catuai coffees with notes of green apple, soft peach and caramel, created using beans sourced from a collection of small farms near Marcala in northern Honduras.

Ham restaurant, West Hampstead
Fund: Australian Red Cross & Adelaide Hills Wine Region Fire Appeal
Ham restaurant in West Hampstead is adding wines from the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia to their wine list, donating £1 from every glass and £5 from every bottle sold to the Adelaide Hills Wine Region Fire Appeal. On Australia Day itself, there will be a three-course Aussie set menu for £25, of which 100% of revenue will go directly to the Australian Red Cross.
