OnBlackheath festival, which debuted in September 2014 year with memorable headline slots from Massive Attack, Frank Turner and Grace Jones, is set to return on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2015
Over 25,000 festivalgoers attended the first ever food and music festival that took place on Blackheath, in partenership with John Lewis, and this year promises to be bigger and better with Elbow and Madness headlining.
Elbow’s current album, The Take Off and Landing of Everything, entered the UK charts at Number One, and Madness will be performing their only London date of the year following a hugely successful arena tour in 2014.
Madness commented: ‘We thought we’d left no stone unturned in London: Palaces, parks, stadiums… and now the kind people of Blackheath are letting us play there. Lets hope we don’t cause an earthquake south of the river.’
Also playing are Manic Street Preachers (following the release of one of the most critically acclaimed albums of their career, Futurology), critically acclaimed Anna Calvi, American R&B star Kelis, British soul singer Laura Mvula and DJ Gilles Peterson.
The Meantime Sessions Stage makes a welcome addition to the bill with artists including The Rude Vandals plus Chris Holland All Stars.
OnBlackheath 2014 was a triumph of incredible music and innovative immersive food experiences, including Gizzi’s Chefs’ Club, hosted by Gizzi Erskine. It was described as ‘a kind of Latitude for south Londoners’ by The Line of Best Fit and ‘the potential to grow into London’s Glastonbury’ by Londonist. The festival was shortlisted for three prestigious UK Festival Awards including Best New Festival, Line-Up of the Year and Concession of the Year.
Visitors were also treated to the unstoppable Marawa the Amazing and her team of hula-hooping Majorettes, swing dance classes with Swing Patrol, The Flying Seagull Project and their travelling musical clowns, as well as sack races, egg-and-spoon races and tug-o-war.
This year, don’t miss the ‘Carry On With Chandon’ party at at 7.30pm on Sunday 13. Expect a live DJ set, Chandon cocktails, and finger good by John Quilter, who is also known as the ‘food busker’ and star of Jamie Oliver’s food tube.
