Ally Pally’s firework displays are the stuff of legend, but while you can’t get bundled and up and go to see them live this year due to Covid-19, you can watch them online for free from the comfort of your own home.

The 2019 display was enjoyed by nearly 90,000 people over two nights, set against the impressive backdrop of London’s skyline.

Considered the biggest and best fireworks night celebrations in London, Ally Pally’s annual Bonfire Night celebration forms part of a 140-year tradition of awe-inspiring displays on the grounds. These historic displays included recreations of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in The Last Days of Pompeii and The Destruction of the Spanish Armada on the boating lakes.

This year’s online stream will bring fireworks to people all over the country at a time when no physical displays can take place. The display will be available to watch online at the Ally Pally website on Thursday 5 November from 6pm.

The stream is free, but as a charity, Alexandra Palace is asking anyone watching the online display to consider donating to support the venue.

‘The Ally Pally fireworks festival is enjoyed by so many people every year and it’s a huge disappointment not to be able to present this year’s event,’ said Louise Stewart, Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust chief executive.

‘Covid-19 related restrictions have hit sites like us hard. Despite this we’ve never stopped trying to find ways of bringing people entertainment’

‘We didn’t want people to miss out completely though, so we thought the next best thing was to stream last year’s event for free, so people can enjoy some fireworks this week.

‘Lockdown and covid-19 related restrictions over the last eight months have hit sites like us hard. Despite this we’ve never stopped trying to find ways of bringing people entertainment, at a time when it is sorely needed.

‘Events like the fireworks festival are crucial in generating income so we can continue to look after the Park and Palace and offer people a world class programme of entertainment and activities. So if you are able to, we’re encouraging people to donate to support us, so that we will still be here, welcoming you back, when the time is right.’
