River Cottage, the organic smallholding that has been transformed into the country’s most famous famous farm since it was taken over by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in 1998, hosts an annual summer festival – and you could be going for free!

The annual River Cottage Summer Festival, which this year runs over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August 2017), offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in all the delights of River Cottage (located on the Devon-Dorset border), with the addition of a jam-packed programme of events including food masterclasses, live music, family-friendly festival fun and the chance to camp onsite at the famous farm.

River Cottage has teamed up with The Resident to offer the chance to win one of five pairs of Day & Gig Night Tickets (worth £25 each) for Sunday 27 August 2017. And, since kids under 16 go free, you can take the kids too!

River Cottage Festival takes place on Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s farm on the Devon-Dorset border

See behind the scenes at River Cottage HQ at River Cottage Festival and enjoy the pop-up restaurant located in the farmhouse itself, as well as street food stands, a fully licensed bar serving local ciders, beers and wines, and a Cocktail Yurt.

In addition to the cookery masterclasses, River Cottage will host workshops ranging from bush craft and jewellery to pottery, as well as a dedicated baby tent offering baby massage, yoga classes for adults and children, a games area and circus workshops.

Festival Gig Nights showcase brilliant musicians including Sound of the Sirens, headlining on the Saturday, and Mr Tea and the Minions on the Sunday.

Excuse the lack of modesty but I’m sure we are doing the best festival food anywhere

‘Our River Cottage Festivals are the highlight of the year for the whole team,’ said River Cottage founder Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, ‘probably because it gives us a chance to meet and feed so many people, from so many places.

‘Excuse the lack of modesty but I’m sure we are doing the best festival food anywhere. That’s not just because of the lovely stuff cooked up by the River Cottage team, but also because of all the brilliant food producers and pop-ups who join us for the weekend.’

Hugh will be around over the weekend, taking part in demonstrations and meeting visitors. He will be joined by River Cottage regulars, Steven Lamb and forager John Wright. There will also be talks and demonstrations from guest chefs including Bake Off star Chetna Makan, activist Satish Kumar, author and CEO of Compassion in World Farming Philip Lymbury, author and Chef Clodagh McKenna and Jessica Seaton, founder of Toast and author of Gather, Cook, Feast.

This year the Festival will be sponsored by Pukka who will be offering their expertise on herbal wellbeing as well as giving away free Pukka tea tasters at Herbie, the herbal airstream.
