Had a poor night’s rest? Indulged on a few too many pints? Vitamin infusions for vitality offer a quick fix, and can be tailored to relieve pain and nausea (like a medical alternative to a fry-up when you’ve over-indulged), boost energy, cleanse and detox, and even for anti-ageing…

Words: Trish Lesslie

As summer kicked in, I felt decidedly under the weather. This time of year usually finds me full of beans thanks to all the glorious daylight, but instead my energy levels plunged and I was saddled with the kind of niggling minor ailments that are a sure sign of being run down.

Action was needed, so I decided to make like an A-lister and book myself in for a vitamin infusion. There are various options at Reviv, a clinic discreetly tucked away in a Knightsbridge basement, crawling distance from One Hyde Park and the Mandarin Oriental, although it’s worth noting there is a concierge service also available.

The basic infusion is Hydromax – a pure saline solution that replenishes lost hydration quicker than any sports drink. Ultraviv is formulated to relieve pain and nausea and boost energy – think of it as a medical alternative to a fry-up when you’ve over-indulged. There’s an ‘anti-ageing’ option with antioxidants to fight free radical damage (Vitalgow), plus a ‘cleansing’ version (Megaboost), which boasts a host of vitamins, detoxifying agents, the antioxidant glutathione and an energy booster.

As well as the instant hydrating effects, it’s claimed that 90% of the actives end up in your bloodstream and therefore your body’s cells – a far higher proportion than would be achieved by taking oral supplements.

After a consultation, I decided on the Royal Flush (£349), a combination of Ultraviv and Megaboost. I made myself comfy on a couch in a private room and, after having my blood pressure and blood oxygen levels measured, barely felt a thing as a canula was inserted into a vein in the crook of my elbow.

Hooked up to the drip, I laid back for half an hour while a litre of Ultraviv made its way into my bloodstream. A further 15 minutes and my body had also taken in 500ml of Ultraviv (1 litre would have been administered if I wasn’t such a shorty) from another drip. I was out within an hour with clearer eyes and a spring in my step.

I breezed through an admittedly gentle yoga class that evening and felt alert and awake when I got home. After a decent night’s sleep, I didn’t exactly leap out of bed, but I did have a spring in my step that I hadn’t felt for weeks. In fact, I perked up further as the day went on and carried on feeling more lively even after a couple of late nights.

A solution to those energy emergencies? You bet…
