London hotspot El Patron is opening Europe’s first tequila hotel on the Isle of Wight this autumn

From the first booze-free bar to a bone broth café, this summer has seen a number of quirky drinking and dining destinations open in the capital. Now, there’s another unique concept arriving in the UK.

Following the success of their Putney-based Mexican bar El Patron, couple Aiste Bart and Andrew Taylor are set to launch Europe’s first tequila hotel on the Isle of Wight in October.

The boutique hotel can be found at Charter House – a striking red brick, grade II building in St Thomas’s Square – where guests will be welcomed by colourful Latino-inspired interiors. There are six Mexican-styled bedroooms, each themed around a different drink from El Patron’s tequila menu, but the biggest perk? Every room has its own individual cocktail-set for guests to get the full tequila experience. It could be dangerous…

However, it’s probably not the place to stay if you’re looking for peace and quiet. DJs will play in the bar area from Wednesday to Saturday, with live music every Sunday, during the day.

The Resident:

Tequila aside, one of the biggest draws of El Patron’s hotel is likely to be the cuisine. Mexican street food including spinach and feta quesadillas, slow cooked pork burritos and crispy fish tacos will be enough to keep stomachs lined in-between the margaritas. As for the cocktails? Maraca, made with bubbles, melon, mint and lemon and the Estimulante, a mix of Patron XO Cafe, dark cacao, and espresso, should get the party started.

The tequila hotel will open at St Thomas Square, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 1SL in October 2015. The restaurant will open in August, just in time for Cowes Week. Find out more about what’s on offer at El Patron at elpatronlondon.com
