In the online, digital, social media, mobile age that we live in it might seem that the only actual post we get is bills and takeaway fliers. But all around London, a team of revolutionary companies are putting a smile back on the postman’s face with exciting deliveries, from monthly presents to one-off hampers, here we round up our favourites.

FOR FRIENDS

1 Not Another Bill
The original revolutionary, Not Another Bill isn’t actually new but we couldn’t write a piece about exactly that without including it. Set up by Ned Corbett-Winder, a former Art Director at M&C Saatchi, Not Another Bill is designed to reinstate the excitement you feel when post drops through your door. Once a month, subscribers receive a mystery present, wrapped in a beautiful Not Another Bill-branded box. NAB collaborates with up-and-coming and artisan designers, artists and brands so the trinkets you get are beautiful, original and often one-offs. It costs £229 a year, or you can join for six months for £129, three months for £69 and one month for £24. notanotherbill.com

2 Sick Note
Flu, hangover, heartbreak, whatever the malady Sick Note has a hamper for it. This fun company, which opened last year, has eight packs of goodies for bed-ridden friends all with something to eat, drink, read, watch and a little treat to make them feel perky again. Glossy magazines, chocolates and luxury toiletries are delivered within three hours in Central London (Zones 1 & 2), in the same day to London (zones 3 & 4) and within 24 to 48 hours to Greater London. Sick Note is closed until October while it sources new goodies but when flu season really kicks in this winter, we suspect it will be pretty busy. sick-note.com

FOR NEW MUMS

3 Box Upon a Time
In the same vein, the newly launched Box Upon a Time sends new mums a box of lovely children’s clothes once a month for £29. It has partnered with brands like Tartine et Chocolat, Olive & Moss and Minature, and in each box is a set of handpicked baby clothes, chosen according to your style – you enter a questionnaire when you sign up. But if you don’t like what you get you can exchange. boxuponatime.co.uk

Inside pretty wicker baskets, you’ll find teethers, teddies, blankets and toys. All of them have been carefully sourced and are organic, handmade, natural products that will stand the test of time. The team behind Poppet In The Post work closely with their suppliers and count several charitable and ethical projects among them. They have sourced natural BPA and PVC-free, environmentally friendly teethers and the hampers are made using sustainable methods. Prices start from £100. poppetinthepost.co.uk

FOR FOODIES

5 The Marvellous Meat Company
We were introduced to The Marvellous Meat Company earlier this month, and love the idea! The delivery butcher sends out packs of grass-fed, slow-grown, 28-day aged beef from traditionally farmed Sussex Cattle, which is sold at supermarket prices. Choose from the likes of burgers and mince, a full BBQ package or (our favourite) a whole cow. Yes a whole cow. Not delivered in one go but instead over 12 months in The Marvellous Meat Company’s ‘Beef for a Year’ deal, which embraces nose-to-tail eating and will see steaks, joints, brisket, cheek and shin delivered to your home. Meat comes in an eco-friendly Woolcool box, an innovative natural insulation that ensures every order stays at refrigeration temperature for 48 hours after packing. marvellousmeatcompany.co.uk

6 Meat Porter
Based on the theory that it’s hard to find restaurant-quality meat at home, Meat Porter sources and delivers restaurant-quality fresh meat to your kitchen. It works with butchers who provide meat to Michelin-star restaurants and offers free next-day delivery across Great Britain, plus the box used to store the meat has a unique cooling system to keep it chilled until you get home. meatporter.com
