Bhuti, a new natural wellbeing spa on Richmond Hill, is transforming people’s lives with yoga and Ayurveda. A sister company to the Bingham, the spa is a vision from the owners’ daughter Samantha Trinder, who always had a passion for health and wellbeing

As I stepped over the threshold of Bhuti, a centre for wellbeing and an antidote to urban stress in Richmond, I sensed an immediate aura of calm. Following the growing trend in spas to go beyond beauty, Bhuti offers solutions for wellbeing – both inside and out. As a sister company to the Bingham, the spa is a vision from the owners’ daughter Samantha Trinder, who always had a passion for health and wellbeing.

Samantha Trinder, who always had a passion for health and wellbeing

It is the culmination of years of dreaming, researching and a want to provide the local community with a space created with integrity and knowledge. ‘My mother used to visit a naturopathic clinic after my dad died when I was 12. She was suffering hugely, but the visits transformed her. She came back calmer, drinking herbal tea and had a complete lifestyle change,’ Trinder says. ‘I am inspired to help others lead healthier and happier lives.’ With a Zen no-tech room, and a vegan bistro to sit back in too, you are free to do as you wish within the spa.

bhUti, as it is originally presented, is Sanskrit for wellbeing, being and thriving. Sanskrit is the language of Eastern spirituality and the ancient texts – Vedas – of yoga and Ayurveda were written in this language. Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest medical systems. Having originated in India more than 3,000 years ago, it remains one of their traditional health care systems. Focused around the body’s constitution (prakriti), and life forces (dosha), which are often compared to the biologic humours of the ancient Greek system, an Ayurvedic consultant will assess your type, and then put together an individualised plan centered on diet and wellbeing.

It is this personal and insightful look into your wellbeing that Bhuti does so well. As I left my Ayurvedic consultation with a personalised plan to lead a more healthy life, and a particularly accurate insight into the type of person that I am and how I need to combat my deep-founded worries, I felt a little in awe of the presence that everyone within the four walls had. In only three hours spent at the spa, I left knowing more about my core values than I ever have and how to approach my health to get the most out of it, both mentally and physically.

Life truly is ‘bhutiful’. Sometimes, we just need to change our perception, our outlook and treat our bodies and wellbeing to the care that they deserve. I can at least vouch for Ayurvedic techniques and the Kundalini Chakra Balancing massage (truly divine!) and say that I genuinely left the premises feeling lighter and with a more positive outlook on life.
