1 The London Eye, Southbank

The giant ‘ferris wheel’ on the Southbank may be a bit of a cliché when it comes to proposing, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good place to say I do – it is a cliché for a reason.

The views across the River Thames are unrivalled, and you can even book a private pod with champagne at the ready, so you can pop a cork when popping the question. Arranging it to coincide with sunset adds an extra level of romance to the stunning skyline.

2 Regent’s Park

A hidden gem that is just waiting to be explored, The Secret Garden – also known as St John’s Lodge Gardens – is behind an unmarked gate and features a tunnel climbing with wisteria, statues and beautiful lawns. The rose garden nearby is also a beautiful, and fragrant spot to confirm your love.

For a bit of fun to your proposal, arrange to feed the animals at London Zoo or for an extra special treat, stay in one of the eco lodges situated right next to the lions’ den. Enjoy the zoo at twilight, when it is an ‘adults only’ area, and bring some animal magic to the whole experience.

3 Primrose Hill

Separated from Regent’s Park by the zoo, but just a stone’s throw away, is one of six protected viewpoints in London. The trees are always pruned to keep them from spreading too much and spoiling the view from the summit of the hill, which is 63 metres above sea level and gives an unobscured panorama of the greenery and scenery. You could almost forget you were in London at all, such is its unspoilt beauty. It is the ideal spot for a picnic proposal.

4 The Meeting Place Statue at St Pancras Station, King's Cross

If you are looking for something to set your love in stone, then the meeting place statue at St Pancras International station – often referred to as The Lovers – is the place to do it.

The 30ft bronze statue depicts a couple about to kiss, and the beautiful architecture of the station and its glass roof provide the perfect setting to get out a sparkling engagement ring that will reflect the light from all over your surroundings and glisten as much as the tears in your lover’s eyes.

5 Tower Bridge, City

The most visually spectacular of all of London’s bridges, Tower Bridge is a great place to pop the question. Tickets to visit inside the bridge itself are relatively inexpensive, and the high-level walkways and glass floors give remarkable vistas over the River Thames and beyond.

The bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in London and has been featured on TV and film screens all over the world. Built in 1894, make it part of your history too.

6 River Thames Cruise

Continuing with the river theme, a cruise along the Thames is a must-do for any visitor to or resident of the capital, exploring so many of the city’s most famous places at a gentile pace away from the hustle and bustle of the land, all from the comfort of a river boat.

Book for dinner, complete with live music, to really make it a special occasion for your proposal, as you sail off into the sunset together – at least for a couple of hours, anyway.

7 Little Venice

If water is your thing, but you fancy something a bit more low-key than a Thames River Cruise, Little Venice may have just what you are after. Its name is thought to have been coined by poet Robert Browning, and it provides an oasis in the middle of London, with its selection of floating cafes, an art gallery and pretty houseboats.

Have a gentle stroll hand-in-hand along the tranquil canal side and take the opportunity to get away from it all. There’s plenty of wildlife to spot too.

8 Royal Observatory, Greenwich

The Royal Observatory hosts the Greenwich Meridian Line which divides the Eastern and Western hemispheres of the earth, for a unique perspective on a proposal.

Getting engaged at the Royal Observatory is a truly galactic experience, with the onsite London Planetarium providing immersive shows detailing constellations and the solar system, so you really can give your partner the world.
