Water World: Burberry’s SS21 Collection is an Ode to the Sea

It’s time for sweatpants to get in the sea! Burberry is back with its SS21 showcase – a romantic ode to the ocean

Water is a symbol of renewal and growth, something we’re all looking forward to as we emerge from repeated lockdowns and the eternal presence of loungewear.

It’s the ideal theme to harness for Burberry’s SS21 collection, then, where sea maidens, sharks and sharp tailoring in bolts of marine blue sit alongside shimmering pieces adorned with crystals, reminiscent of water droplets and mermaids.

Dedicated to nature, these pieces are contrasted with and exist alongside the fashioned and tailored. Signature trench coats and parkas are transformed with industrial, rubberised materials, layered with delicate chiffon, crystal embroideries and fishnet-inspired mesh.

Even the #BurberryTrench coat – a timeless icon – has been reimagined with painterly prints and fresh hues, fusing utility with romance.

The collection, created in Burberry’s London design studio, has been photographed both in the natural beauty of the British outdoors and classically raw studio shots by Juergen Teller in collaboration with Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer, Riccardo Tisci.
