Pre and post-natal care practitioners Miriam Christie and Chanelle Thornton believe new mums need more support, so they set up Nurture Hub in south east London to do just that
What inspired Nurture Hub?
Chanelle: Miriam supported me through a tricky third pregnancy and we worked together on a fitness and wellbeing plan that made a really valuable difference to me and my family. We realised that our shared motivations and ideas could actually be a viable service to our neighbouring families.
Why do we need it?
Chanelle: We spoke to lots of families, midwives and other health and wellness practitioners and the overwhelming response was that maternity provision is great, but ongoing support for a growing family is forgotten unless you are at a crisis point. Pregnancy and growing families are a time for celebration and joy, but it can also be a difficult time for a wide variety of reasons. We want to offer an accessible and holistic way to feel supported and well at every life-stage.
How does Nurture Hub differ from anything else out there?
Miriam: Our ‘everything under one roof’ approach that makes it more cost-effective and easier for people to access services. It also allows us to develop good relationships with our clients over a longer period. We are pregnancy and post-natal specialists so when you come to Nurture Hub, you are assured of a full and proper consultation by specially trained practitioners, which will be applied to all treatments to ensure your safety and comfort.

What do you offer?
Chanelle: Our core offer includes hypnobirthing, massage, baby massage, Yoga, Pilates and personal training. We will also be providing workshops covering topics such as active birth techniques, teaching massage for labour, breastfeeding support and posture advice.
Miriam: We can also develop bespoke offers such as individual oil blending and massage treatments for labour induction or strains from breastfeeding; targeted pelvic health or diastasis rectus support; and hypnobirthing support that takes into account any past issues or traumas from previous births.
Is south east London is a great area to bring up a family?
Chanelle: Yes – there is so much for children to do here and a lot of open green space. There are terrific schools and our little ones are flourishing in a cosmopolitan community. The community of parents and families in this area is wonderful and so supportive during maternity and paternity leave and navigating the school system.
Our children are part of an amazing network of families and we try to help each other with babysitting and after-school pick ups and getting together for Sunday lunches. We often hear from parents that maternity leave can become quite a lonely time so through Nurture Hub we also hope to bring people together via our retreats, workshops and hypnobirthing classes.
Nurture Hub is based in South Norwood but offers a mobile service across south east London
