MoreYoga is running a series of special charity events and classes to honour Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from 14-20 May 2018
Tight chest, aching back, stiff shoulders and a mind with too many ‘tabs’ open? Many of us can relate to this particular scenario, and it’s often down to stress.
Research has shown that around 12 million adults in the UK see their GP with mental health problems each year and, of this number, most also suffer from stress-related anxiety and depression.
Yoga and meditation have been shown to help manage stress-related anxiety and depression, so to honour Mental Health Awareness Week from 14-20 May, MoreYoga is running a series of special charity events and classes.
Taking place across MoreYoga’s London studios, the special charity and community classes are for those looking to use yoga and mindfulness to tackle mental health issues, or donate to worthy causes during the week.
Events include special guest talks from psychologists and mental health experts, late night yoga lock-ins and workshops. The studios will also be hosting activities and classes to highlight how yoga can contribute to good mental health.
Highlights include Mindfulness & Beyond, a workshop with Dr Gemma Beckley, Director of The Meditation Trust on Wednesday 16 May at MoreYoga Greenwich Creekside (£5pp with funds going to The Meditation Trust); a candle-lit late-night yoga lock-in with a talk from psychologist Steph Minchin on Friday 18 May at MoreYoga Finsbury (£25pp with funds going to The Samaritans); and a free community class with MoreYoga instructor Claire Alexander, starting with a short mindful meditation to help the mind and body connect before a 40min vinyasa flow class on Saturday 19 May at MoreYoga Brixton (free).
Classes will be ticketed, with the profits going to selected charities, and are open to anyone, not just MoreYoga members.
