Houseplants are hot and biophilic design is the latest buzzword filling our inboxes, so it was only a matter of time until this day came… London is getting a hotel filled with greenery to reconnect urbanites with nature

Houseplant experts Thejoyofplants.co.uk have announced the opening of the UK’s first hotel suites filled with greenery, offering guests an immersive overnight indoor forest-bathing experience.
Three studio suites at design-led hotel Leman Locke in east London have been transformed into lush indoor jungles by award-winning biophilic designer and architect Oliver Heath, alongside This Morning’s Mr Plant Geek, Michael Perry, and creative designer and Founder of Grace & Thorn, Nik Southern.
Each of the suites, which launch to the public on 19 October, has been covered in carefully selected houseplants to either help boost productivity, ignite passion or bring peace and tranquillity.
‘Houseplants can boost overall wellbeing, reduce stress and even boost intimacy – they’re not just good for the ‘gram!’
With new research by Thejoyofplants.co.uk revealing that a third (34%) of people spend less than 17 minutes outside per day during the winter months, despite two fifths (39%) recognising that spending more time in nature would make them happier, these jungle studios will help people to reconnect with nature.
With houseplants taking over the walls, windows, bathrooms and even overhead, each of the studio suites delivers a multisensory experience, demonstrating how houseplants can boost overall wellbeing, reduce stress and even boost intimacy – they’re not just good for the ‘gram!
Guests will also be given tips and #planthacks on easy ways to bring houseplants into their homes, taking cues from the temporary design installations by our design experts, perfect for the many who rent or homeowners looking to easily transform their homes with greenery.
Here, The Resident takes a sneak peek at each of the three plant-filled suites…
The Productivity Suite
Designed by Oliver Heath, the Productivity Suite is perfect for nomadic workers and business travellers, adorned with Boston ferns, peace lilies and snake plants – all renowned for their productivity inducing properties.
You can also enjoy a binaural beats audio experience – the latest audio ‘soundwave therapy’ – designed to sharpen focus and stimulate creativity. The standard hotel mini bar is transformed into a plant-based fuel station, offering plant based ‘power snacks’ and a CBD oil shot.
The Romance Suite
This heady romantic respite, designed by Nik Southern, is a shrine to sensuality. Be wowed by the bed’s botanical canopy, an ode to intimacy that cocoons couples in a lush green blend of cascading plants.
The sensual sounds and visuals of the natural botanical have been carefully curated to excite the senses, and you’ll get to enjoy an exclusive love-boosting cocktail, too.
The Tranquil Suite
Mr Plant Geek (AKA Michael Perry) has designed this tranquil indoor jungle, packed with tropical plants to a forest-bathing experience in the city. Featuring houseplants such as bromeliads and a variety of monsteras from deliciosa to obliqua, this suite harnesses the relaxing power of plants.
Enjoy a fully immersive plant-bathing experience in the bathroom, a dedicated plant meditation space and a clean sleep zone containing the world’s most air purifying plants to bring you the gift of deep sleep.
‘Hotels have started to feature beautiful plant installations in communal areas for a number of years now but the botanical installations seem to end there,’ said Chanel De Kock, UK Manager at Thejoyofplants.co.uk.
‘We know that people are inspired when they travel and take inspiration from the places they stay in, so this is a unique opportunity to stimulate guests with biophilic design.
‘People are slowly waking up to the fact that the humble houseplant is so much more than just a decorative or design object – they are a powerful source of life that give so much more than they take.’
The indoor plant jungle hotel is open for bookings until 10 November 2019. Email email@example.com to book (bookings made directly via the email will automatically receive a 15% discount).
