London Marriott Launches the Capital’s Sweetest Scented Suites

If you’re not enjoying an exclusive in-suite experience, are you even staying in a 5-star hotel? Travel is all about experiences, but there can be no in-suite experience as beautifully scented as the latest partnership between London Marriott Hotel Park Lane and Penhaligon’s…

British perfume house Penhaligon’s and the 5-star London Marriott Hotel Park Lane teamed up to launch Suite Scents this summer, offering guests staying in the Premier Suites access to a collection of the brand’s most iconic fragrances to use during their stay.

Travel is all about experiences, making memories and, these days, getting that perfect Instagram shot, and with our sense of smell being the most closely linked with memory out of all our senses, this new partnership ticks all three boxes.

Book the Suite Scents by Penhaligon’s package and you will be hand-delivered a luxurious Penhaligon’s Fragrance Library, presented on a beautiful – and very Instagrammable – floral display. Carefully curated by Penhaligon’s, the library presents a collection of 14 of their most iconic and brave new scents for both him and her.

The beautifully presented Penhaligon’s Fragrance Library

Perfect for those who travel light, a trained fragrance butler will deliver the library and assist guests in selecting their perfect Penhaligon’s scent to wear during their stay. Choose from fragrances such as Lord George, perfect for a celebratory dinner out in Mayfair, or The Coveted Duchess Rose, for an unforgettable shopping spree on nearby Bond Street.

Fragrance profiling is quite the inadvertent exercise in psychology – how do you see yourself versus how others perceive you? We tried the experience and, after a series of questions to ascertain our favourite colours, fabrics, clothes and the kind of scents we usually wear – my answers were all hopelessly vague and, frankly, misleading – the fragrance butler will spritz three fragrances onto a scent blotter for you to contemplate.

‘Fragrance profiling is quite the inadvertent exercise in psychology – how do you see yourself versus how others perceive you?’

I liked all three selected for me, but loved two of them, which were then spritzed onto each wrist. Eventually, I went for the fragrance that lingered best on my skin, the glorious Penhaligon’s Empressa. Somehow, cutting through my ramblings, our fragrance specialist matched me with the perfect perfume, and I’ve worn it every day since.

When checking out, to assuage the end-of-trip blues, you are presented with a full size bottle of ‘your’ fragrance to take away with you (for shorter stays, it will be posted to your home). Penhaligon’s bottles and packaging are beautiful, so it makes quite the keepsake, and that fragrance will then forever remind you of your stay at the beautiful Grade II listed London Marriott Hotel Park Lane.

It is a wonderful hotel. You can hardly fault the location, right by Marble Arch and Hyde Park. If you’re travelling for business, you’re right in the thick of the action and can hop onto the Central Line at Marble Arch right outside the hotel or, given that you’re now so sweetly scented, into a cool, roomy Black Cab.

On checking out, I took a stroll along Oxford Street – a pleasure at 10am on a sunny day, before the hoards of shoppers descended – to Bond Street tube station, hopping onto the Jubilee Line and off to work (following a short stop off at Uniqlo that the boss doesn’t need to know about).

If you’re travelling for pleasure, the shops of Oxford Street, Regent Street, Bond Street, Knightsbridge and Connaught Village are right on your doorstep, as are the idyllic mews and squares of Mayfair, which are dotted with fantastic, tucked away restaurants. Whether it’s business or pleasure, however, do rise early and head for the health club, which has the only pool on Park Lane.

And the Premier Suites are gorgeous. The spacious suites – surprisingly large for such a central location – have been thoughtfully interior designed, kitted out in plush furnishings of silver and regal purple, complete with bespoke artwork, creating a sophisticated, contemporary and cosy home-from-home.

The bathrooms are something else – vast marble palaces enticing enough to make you ditch your itinerary and simply enjoying a soak in the tub (using the fragrant Penhaligon’s bathroom goodies, of course).

These are, quite simply, the sweetest of London hotel suites. Check in and enjoy, you’ll come out smelling of roses…

Suite Scents will be available to book until December 2019 and is priced from £1,500 per night. The package includes a luxurious suite for up to two guests for one night, a quintessential British breakfast for two in Lanes of London, the Penhaligon’s Fragrance Trolley delivered by fragrance butler, and one full-size Penhaligon’s fragrance to take home.
