The New Year New You motivation is long gone, it’s still pretty cold out there and you’re working long hours… It looks like that carefully orchestrated fitness regime is in danger of slipping. Jeremy Allen, Fitness Manager at BodyWorksWest, shares his top four tips for keeping your training on track:

1 Reach out to others
Research has shown training with a friend or a partner can give you up to 5% more gains from your workout. So catch up with friends in the gym not the pub this year. It’s also helpful to spot each other, and a little friendly competition will help you push that bit harder.

2 Be inspired
Go and watch a running race or a triathlon and be inspired by others! Doing this you are more likely to stay focused and keep to your goals. Why not sign up to your own race to keep you on track? London has plenty of events, from 5K to 10K and half marathons. It doesn’t have to be the London Marathon!

3 Track your progress
Make sure you keep a log of what you achieve in your training this year. This will help you evaluate your performance on a weekly/monthly basis. Always keep the big goal at the forefront of your training, this will keep you on track. Apps like Nike+ or Map My Run are really helpful, and you can build up an online community and compete with friends.

4 Reward yourself
Whatever your goal ensure you reward yourself for hitting bench marks in your training, whether it be losing a certain amount of weight or lifting a weight that you have been striving for.
