Winter can be harsh on the skin, stripping away those valuable layers of moisture that keep skin looking plumper, more radiant and youthful.
Moisturisers trap water content in the skin so that cells stay hydrated, but there are other things you can do to keep your skin looking plump and youthful throughout the winter and all year round.
So don’t let winter dehydrate your skin and wreak havoc on your anti-ageing skincare regime, just follow these five simple steps to naturally younger looking skin…
1 Drink tea
Drinking tea on a regular basis, especially green tea, is good for your skin, as well as your overall wellbeing – that’s why you’re seeing it in more and more beauty products nowadays. Green tea is high in protective polyphenols which function as powerful antioxidants known to protect the body against disease, prevent cell damage and reduce the formation of free radicals, known to play a role in aging and all sorts of diseases.
Exercise is not just good for the body, it’s good for the mind – and also your skin. Exercise raises you heart rate, encouraging endorphins and all those positive brain chemicals to activate naturally. If you have a lot of stress at work, you’ll probably notice that it affects your hormones as well, resulting in oily skin. Working up a sweat opens up your pores and helps them release the grit and grime that holds in bacteria.
3 Go outside
If you’re stuck in an air conditioned office, try to get away from your desk and rest your mind regularly. A constantly busy mind is bad for your hormones and skin, so you need to try and find a work-wellbeing balance. Take regular breaks, go outdoors, breath in some fresh air and get some vitamin D from the sun, which helps destroy free radicals that can cause premature aging, as well as contributing to skin cell growth and repair. You should, of course, always wear a good sun block – too much sun accelerates skin aging.
4 Get a good skincare regime
Take a little time to plan your morning and evening skincare regimes and you’ll start to notice improvements in your skin. In the morning, use a cleanser that is not too harsh on the skin (a lot of people use facial scrubs that can actually encourage breakouts as your skin reacts to the irritation), clean that off and then apply a good serum – like the new Cosset Royal Firming Youth Essence – followed by sun block. In the evening, repeat the cleansing process, apply the serum and, if you feel your skin is more prone to dryness or you’ve been in a harsh environment, apply an extra layer of moisturiser on top.
5 Use a good, all-purpose serum
All-purpose products have gained a bad rep in the age of bespoke solutions. But having multiple products – for the eyes, the T-zone, the neck and décolletage etc – over complicates your skincare regime. With busy lifestyles, we need a fast, effective solution. Cosset Royal Firming Youth Essence is a new all-purpose oil-balancing serum that brightens, moisturises and helps minimise pores. It’s suitable for all skin types and can even be used around the delicate eye area.
The key active natural ingredients are marine collagen, which helps with hydration and regeneration, plumping out skin cells to significantly reduce lines and wrinkles, and hyaluronic acid to help smooth and firm the skin (hyaluronic acid has good transdermal absorption, meaning nutrients are absorbed more easily). It also contains Glabidin, which is found in the root extract of liquorice and is an effective skin-brightener, leaving your skin radiant. It’s also easy to absorb and won’t clog your pores. In fact, it creates a protective film over the skin, keeping dirt and pollutants out.
Cosset, a PW Group product, is priced £40 and available from Organic Botanist, 42 Museum Street WC1A 1LY and online at cossetlondon.com
