Why It Pays to Buy in Elephant & Castle

Back in the day, I was a journalism student at the then London College of Printing at the Elephant and Castle. Like the area, our campus was a bit rough around the edges but showed promise.

Fast forward to 2018, LCP is now the London College of Communication and the Elephant and Castle I knew is changing daily before our eyes with cool new homes and ambitious plans for the run-down shopping centre to be transformed.

Add to that its close proximity to Borough and Tower Bridge and you can see why Londoners are fast cottoning on to the plus points of this often overlooked area. With a Zone 1 address it’s a very quick 10-minute commute by tube to Oxford Circus and the cost per square foot figures are amazing.

Luxury properties in Mayfair and Hyde Park currently sell for up to £6,000 per square foot, while equivalent properties at the Elephant cost on average £1,200 per square foot, so you get a lot more bang for your buck here.

But can this area ever compete with central London? Judging by the apartments for sale at the TWO FIFTY ONE apartment block on Southwark Bridge Road, the answer is a resounding yes.

One bedroom apartments at TWO FIFTY ONE start at £685,000, going up to £1,865,000 for a luxury two-bedroom Select Ten property on the 34th floor.

Here you’ll find incredibly spacious homes with wrap-around windows offering jaw-dropping views of London, including the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, the Post Office Tower and Battersea Power Station.

As well as a spacious open-plan living room and diner, the apartment also boasts a roomy enclosed winter garden, which is perfect for chilling out after a hard day’s work.

The interior designers at TWO FIFTY ONE have created beautiful yet very liveable spaces in cool shades of taupe and dark grey with fantastic roomy marble-tiled bathrooms. On-site facilities in the block include a fully-equipped gym, residents-only cinema and a cool meeting/workspace, plus a 24-hour concierge.

So what more could you ask for? Well how does the fantastic Mercato Metropolitano right on your doorstep sound? Here, you can enjoy on-site brewed craft beer, catch some live music, learn to make miniature landscapes or simple sample a different cuisine from around the world every evening.

Meanwhile, the world-famous Borough Market is a 10-minute walk away, and the delightful Toulouse Lautrec, a cute French neighborhood restaurant and jazz bar loved by local residents, is a very close to TWO FIFTY ONE. Culture fans are in for a treat too as the acclaimed Southwark Playhouse is literally across the street.

With fabulous apartments with jaw dropping views and some of London’s coolest neighbourhoods on your doorstep, it’s no wonder so many buyers are flocking to TWO FIFTY ONE. A home here will give you the ultimate London lifestyle. And yes, finally the Elephant is cool…
