The accommodation on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is about to get even grander, with the launch of three new Grand Suites inspired by Paris, Venice and Istanbul.
Launching in March 2018, the Grand Suites, designed by Wimberly Interiors, draw inspiration from the romance, adventure and style of each of these three notable cities – all destinations that this once-in-a-lifetime luxury train weaves through.
Ornate detailing, hand-beaded embroidery and lavish fabrics reflect each city’s unique character, enriching the original bespoke details so that you can experience the golden age of travel in contemporary luxury.
One of the key design elements in each suite is the extravagant, high gloss marquetry, which blends the unique rich traditional patterns of each city with the Art Deco design of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express carriages,’ says Sophie Deeley, Project Designer of Wimberly Interiors, an award-winning design studio that has designed projects on behalf of brands such as Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and Fairmont.
Wimberly Interiors worked closely with Belmond, which operates the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, to ensure the designs are sensitive to the original history of the 1920s and 30s carriages. Take a peek at the the new Grand Suites below…
The Paris Suite
Inspired by Paris’ historic love affair with the Art Deco movement, this suite is adorned with exquisite decorative touches and a light and crisp colour palette. The city’s haute couture and gastronomic excellence is channelled through elegant furnishings, delicate fabrics, crystal barware and Lalique crystal panels.
The Venice Suite
Damask silks, blue and silver hues and bespoke Murano Glass Chandeliers reflect Venice’s baroque and renaissance heritage, weaving its famous grandeur into the space. Celebrating local craftsmanship, decorative elements include traditional Venetian mirrors and an antique tapestry sourced from Venice.
The Istanbul Suite
This suite has been influenced by the rich patterning of the Topkapi Palace, traditional Ottoman design and Istanbul’s famous Grand Bazaar. Hand carved timber and marquetry panel borders accented with mother of pearl recall the opulence and romance of the city, while amber crystal ware, embossed leather and exaggerated metal details honour its unique heritage.
Venice Simplon-Orient-Express travels between London, Paris and Venice from March to November, and from Paris to Istanbul once a year in August/September. Guests will be able to travel in complete seclusion, with each new suite featuring private bathrooms with showers, double beds and a living area, offering the ultimate in style and comfort. A classic one-night journey from London to Venice in a Grand Suite is priced at £5,500 per person.
