Original features are a big hit with homeowners, not to mention home buyers, but often that beloved 50s parquet flooring or Regency-style dining table has seen better days. And who to trust with restoring these original features back to their former glory? A specialist with a Royal Warrant, of course…
Michenuels of London, French Polishers & Furniture Restorers, was founded in 1993 by three young antiques restorers, Michael, Henroy and Miguel (hence the somewhat exotic name), who had already gained themselves a reputation within the antiques trade, from Camden Market to Bermondsey’s Antique Market and Greenwich Market to The Antiques Warehouse in Blackwall.
The three started their own business under the guidance of the Princes Trust, combining their French polishing and furniture restoration experiences, and now work with Royal households including Clarence House, St James’s Palace and Kensington Palace (as such, Michenuels of London now carries a Royal Warrant By Appointment of HRH The Prince of Wales). Michenuels of London also works with property developers like Berkeley Homes, St Georges, St James and Crest Nicholson Homes, as well as carrying out fittings and restorations for iconic buildings such as the London Stock Exchange, White Hall and Corrigan’s Mayfair.
‘My ordinary looking house has been transformed into a stunning hallway,’ says one homeowner in South Norwood, who recently had their original hallway floor restored. ‘I have a 1930’s built house with original flooring that has seen better days. Miguel needed to match the old flooring with a new piece made to measure and polished to even out the colour. Both Miguel and the team of sanders were professional, fair, honest and polite. Stunning results!’
The Peckham-based company has a fully secured workshop, equipped to cope with the most trying restoration projects from large dining tables to broken chairs and even walnut veneer car interiors. The team is accomplished in traditional French polishing and antique furniture restoration, maintaining, polishing or restoring hardwood flooring, laying new flooring, polishing woodwork back to its former glory, repairing damaged banisters and handrails, and also re-covering and re-springing furniture.
