Creating extra space is top of the list for a lot of London homeowners. But with basement extensions hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons and loft conversions and extensions costly and complicated, MiModula, a design-led, simple-to-assemble modular garden building, could be the answer
As more and more people aspire to work from home and manage their work-life balance, extra space is often top of the priority list. MiModula is an affordable ‘modular build system’ designed for customers who wish to add an outdoor spaces, but not just any old space, a stylish, functional, cost-effective solution for flexible high-spec outdoor space.
The MiModula mission is to provide customers with the building blocks or modules to create extra space to suit their needs, be that a traditional garden office, playroom, art studio or even just extra storage.
MiModula CEO James Inman, who has a background in financial services but has always had a passion for architecture (he once bought a Normandy barn that was taken apart and brought across the Channel, he then redesigned and reassembled it in Surrey together with some students), came up with the idea for a design-led, modular build that gives people a flexible, moveable approach to space making.
‘Think LEGO; think Ikea,’ he says, ‘all the work has been done in a factory, it just needs assembling.’ MiModula provides a team of professionals to assemble your building for you, but a self-assembly product is on the cards for the future.
Thanks to a recent relaxation of rules regarding Permitted Development as set out in the planning departments of local authorities, there should be no need for planning permission in most cases. Clean and simple foundations mean no wet concrete and installation within 24-28 hours.
MiModula grants the customer real choice over the look of the building, both in terms of the interior and the exterior. It may be L-shaped, for example, and the unique cladding system means that the exterior can be refreshed, with finished including cedar, spruce, aluminium, power-coated or even a green-wall option. A selection of heating and electric systems are available too.
MiModula is about offering people the chance to personalise their outdoor living. The buildings can evolve and work with their surroundings and provide the client with a fabulous design
