Property of the Week: The ‘Beatle Boot’ Factory, Camden

Warehouse conversions always makes for interesting properties, but you know you’re onto a winner when the building has a connection to The Beatles…

The Anello Building in Camden was once home to the factory that made the famous ‘Beatle boot’, and two new apartments in the warehouse-style residential development have just come onto the market – one of which is the penthouse.

The Anello & Davide shoe factory produced the famous ‘Beatle boot’ in the 1960s. Built in the 1930s, the building was originally the home of DeHavilland, which manufactured aircraft parts, but was taken over by Anello & Davide in the early 1960s.

Founded in 1922 by Anello and Davide Gandolfi, the company supplied bespoke dance shoes to London theatres and films. But things really took off when the Beatles spotted their Chelsea boot with a Cuban heel.

The band visited the Anello & Davide shop in London and bought a pair each. The ‘Beatle boot’ was born, and it quickly became one of the most fashionable shoes of the 60s and 70s, creating queues of Mods outside the shop on Drury Lane.

Alongside The Beatles, Marylin Monroe, Jane Fonda and Orson Welles became fans of Anello & Davide, and the company went on to provide the footwear for musicals such as Cats and Mamma Mia, as well as Dorothy’s unforgettable red slippers in The Wizard of Oz.

The shoe company still exists, but like most substantial properties with an attractive postcode, the factory was destined for conversion, and is now a luxury property development.

Located just a two-minute walk from Camden Town tube station, The Anello Building is right at the beating heart of Camden, an area famous for its music heritage and artistic flare. It’s also just a 10-minute walk from Regent’s Park, for those who like their green space.

The two new apartments are available to let exclusively through Aston Chase. The 861 sq ft two-bedroom apartment, available for £795 per week, offers a modern an open-plan kitchen space and living space, a generous outdoor terrace and a master bedroom with en suite.

The 1,744 sq ft three-bedroom penthouse at the Anello Building has floor-to-ceiling windows, a generous terrace. Two of the bedrooms are en suite, and the spacious open-planning living, dining and kitchen area is ideal for entertaining.

‘The Anello Building has a fun and artistic history that has been expressed through the design of the apartments, ‘ says Ben Sloane, Director or Lettings at Aston Chase.

‘Aston Chase have already successful let two of the apartments in the building and we anticipate that these new apartments will command a lot of demand due to impeccable design and great location.’
