Katharine Pooley – one of the most sought-after interior designers in the UK – has partnered with The Childhood Trust to bring a little sparkle to the homes of children living in poverty across Greater London.
The Decorate A Child’s Life programme is a new volunteer-led programme launched to renovate children’s dilapidated bedrooms.
The programme sees Katharine Pooley London designers work with The Childhood Trust to renovate the homes of children who need support.
Projects are found through other charities and social services across London’s boroughs, and once corporate sponsorship for each project is secured, the team sets to work on the transformation.
Together, they will deep-clean, declutter, paint, assemble flat-pack-furniture and put up shelves, pictures and curtains to help create the child’s bedroom of dreams.
The Decorate a Child’s Life programme can also transform other living spaces to boost a family’s sense of dignity and wellbeing, putting a family back on track with a home to be proud of.
So far, the programme has completed projects in Brixton, Newham, Romford, Notting Hill and Croydon, and the partnership hopes to scale up the programme to create fun bedroom sanctuaries for more disadvantaged children.
Katharine Pooley is an award-winning international interior designer who has transformed homes in many of London’s most prestigious addresses, as well as villas in the south of France and Kuwait.
